discovered a 700 w/drawal from a company that has been closed and wanted my bank account info. I refused to provide it and told him to confirm it (he claimed to have it), he wouldn't. I asked him how the company way, what company employed him, when it was done, - ect. I suspect it might be a scam by a payday loan company. I FINALLY unburied myself with the payday loan sharks and don't want to go back.
Has anyone heard of such a thing? I asked for phone number and was given a 1-800-923-8496 (which is not assigned per the recording).

Be sure not to pay anything until you are sent the details of the debt in writing. You have every right to know where you money will be posted to, if they have one of your accounts. Don't fall into any of their scare tactics.

but it sounded very fishy and they wouldn't give me details. I didn't want to give my banking info so that they could have taken money versus depositing w/out my knowledge.

Will you pay me if I make a phone call to you and ask for your money? I must have some proof to show you about your account. Then only I have rights to recover the amount.

OK, I wasn't clear - they claim NOT to be wanting money from me, but want to GIVE ME money. They claim that their auditors found that a business who is no longer in operations took out a total of 700 fraudulantly from my account. They (First Shield) asked me to confirm my banking info so they could DEPOSIT the funds into my account.
I just wanted to know if anyone had heard of such a thing before and was it legit?

This is very interesting because yesterday I received a strange call from an incomplete phone#. When I answered it there was this man with a foreign accent telling me that his name was "Allen" from the ______ Bank USA" Fraud Department. I kept asking him for the name of the bank and he kept saying "Well, we are not a bank, we are the Fraud Department and have you had money taken from your account in the past?" I am asking him "where are you calling again?" because he was very hard to understand and he kept asking me if I had money taken from my account in the past. I told him that I do not speak about my finances with strangers and he said that he had my "banking information" and that he was just verifying if I had money taken from my account in the past. I told him, I don't know, you called me, you tell me if I had money taken from my account.... he got frustrated and hung up.
Very strange....
