I received a response from the FTC which was your basic yada yada, thanks for writing, we will get back to you if necessary. Here is what I wrote back:

Quote:
The main obstacle here is that these are internet loan companies. It's virtually impossible to get them to respond to email and I can't obtain a current mail address for most of them either. I have filed a complaint with the NYS Attorney General's office but in my opinion their needs to be federal safeguards against these predators. They break the laws but think they are untouchable because it is very difficult to actually locate them and make them answer to their actions. Meanwhile, they brow beat and inimidate good people that used poor judgement in getting into business with them in the first place. Please follow up on this - they are operating like "legal" loansharks.

Keep pushing them with your letters regularly. The complaints don't go wasted. It may take some time to get the results, but you will definitely benefit from your actions. The unlicensed companies will not continue for long. Stick to it. You are doing the right thing

That's okay if they're "computer generated" emails telling you that they're in receipt of your complaint. Because that's not where it ends. They do pay attention. mperez, your response was good. Responding is good. But, please everyone, don't think that just because you got a "computerized email" from the FTC that it doesn't mean a thing. I'm sure they get so many complaints, they have to do the "computerized" thing. But they do investigate also. Just wanted to put some minds at ease that think the FTC might be blowing them off. Because really they're not. But to respond and give your opinion is good. They receive those too. Keep at it!

what is the benefit of filing w/ the FTC? I filed with the NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL a couple of weeks ago and haven't heard a word. Mperez, have they responded to you yet? I faxed my complaint to the NY city office and so far, not a word!

When I spoke to a woman in my AG's office...she told me that if you didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks it meant the file was being reviewed in the legal department and to be patient. If they feel your case has no marit or there isn't anything to be done they would email you or send you a response right away.

Filing with the FTC under the Consumer Protection link gives the FTC information to investigate these pdl's and their tactics. If the FTC gets enough complaints regarding the same pdl's, they will take action. The AG will also take action. From what I understand, it might take the AG a little longer to actually respond. It's really kind of weird. I file with all the agencies and sometimes one responds quickly and the others don't and sometimes it's the other way. I don't know the rhyme or reason, but some agencies respond quickly to complaints. I've gotten fast responses from the BBB on some pdl's, and sometimes I've gotten responses from the other agencies before the BBB. So I'm not sure how it all works, but they do respond. That's why I say file with all the agencies. If you don't get a response from one, you might get a response from one of the others.

morningstarr, thanks for that post. It gives hope! Because I really do believe that the AG offices review all the information and act from there. In our cases, I'm sure they will find "merit" in our complaints, as these ipdl's are illegal and then use illegal tactics once they've got their hooks in you.

I know for a fact that the NY AG is very interested in anyone who is screwed over by pdls.

Thank you for the post regarding NY AG. Just because you don't get a response within a few days, doesn't mean they're not looking at it. I'm not even in NY, but I'm confident that my state AG is looking into these complaints. Hell, I've filed enough of them myself to draw attention! LOL! So if everyone sends in their complaints to their AG, action will be taken.
