So I figured I would try something to get these companies to stop calling since they obviously dont care about the C&D letters Ive sent them...What i did was I changed my voicemail to the generic recording where it just says my # is not available. So when they call they dont hear me say my name. Then i started answering and when they asked for me I got upset and said I just got this number and Im sick of getting calls for the previous owner. Im getting apologies and no more calls. Just a tip. Very Happy

I have verizon and when you go to your voicemail greeting menu it says to use a generic msg that will tell callers you are unavailable press 1 it also gives an option to use your name instead but for obvious reasons I chose my number only

Hell, I've had that since day one! Laughing This way they have NO CLUE if they have the correct person. If you do answer, claim they have the wrong number. Works for me! Wink

Another thing you could do is to set call forwarding on your phone to send them to strange places.

Maybe forward your calls back to them, so when they call you they are really calling themselves. Or find a disconnected # and forward calls there, so when they dial your # it will say disconnected.

The only downside to that is while your calls are being forwarded, even people you might want to talk to will also get forwarded.

If not for the one downside, debtcruncher, that would be an AWESOME idea! I was cracking up just reading it! Too bad if your mom or someone calls, they would be directed back to a pdl! Shocked

Some companies, like Route 66, will continue to call, even if you tell them it's the wrong number.

Route66- That company is still offering me a 100.00 settlement of my loan instead of 1,850...mind you I paid back that loan of 200.00 by a few hundred dollars in roll-overs as well. I'm not thinking so..... Wink
