Okay - our new account is open and we are ready to start using it. My old account is still open as well...though there is nothing in it.

My husband's direct deposit will go in it this week though because his payroll dept. had not stopped it yet.

So - what exactly do I request for this account?
I know if I don't do something MTE will hit it at the same time as direct deposit.

Others might be able to offer better advice than I, but at this point, if your old account is still open and the deposit will be going in that one, I'd say you should put the old account on "deposit only" status. That way, NO withdrawals can be made from that account. If you do this, though, please check with your bank to make sure they won't charge you a "return" fee for any ACH's that can't be put through. Then when the deposit goes through, if that's the only thing holding up closing your old account, you can close the old account and transfer the funds to the new one.

Is your new account with the same bank as your old account?

I called the bank and they told me to come in the branck and put it on a hold so that nothing else can come out. Then after the direct deposit comes in to close it. I'm dealing with PNC here though - so I am nervous because I read some bad posts.

To be safe, go into the bank, and place a hard debit block on that account, also, tell your branch manager that you want to revoke any further ach transactions, and do it in writing, have the branch manager initial or sign it. That way they can NOT charge you for any attempted ach transactions! Only speak with the branch manager, or a supervisor. Smile

I'd "second" what Shazzers said, be sure to talk to the manager. And don't be embarrassed about talking to them about what's going on. Many banks have had to deal with this before. Keep us posted!

i just did this. close the old one, when your dd comes in and has nowhere to go, it waits for someone to "tell" it where to go. as long as your bank is aware of this, they can manually pull it into your new account. ask them to do this for you. i suggest you have it pulled into a savings account and use that though if you are with the same bank, to many horror stories about same bank, different account # and these pdls end up getting the informationa and getting your money from your new account.

You took the words right out of my mouth lol. Yes I work for a bank and my advise is to close your account NOW then have them remark your old account to move your dd to your new account. Thats your safest bet
