PDL fight! Advice Please

Ok so so far I have read so much on here and gotten so much advice on how to do this myself. I just want to make sure I am not missing a step. I was going to hire Langnorne Firm to help me but their fees were insane! Here are the PDL's I have out:

Impact Cash: $300 (paid $180)
PayDay Depot: $300 (paid $75)
PayDay Loan Yes: $350 (paid $315)
PayCheck today: $400 (paid $360)
Urgent Cash Advance: $300 (paid $0)
Check City: $700 (paid $0)

Okay so I sent letters to all, by the way Urgent Cash Advance is the only legal institution in Washington State, which is where I reside.

UCA agreed to a payment plan and I am making good on that. Paycheck Today just keeps sending me the same email about settling and that they have tried to call me numerous times but that isn't true. Impact cash immediatly settled for the rest of the principal owed and apologized for the bad service I recieved! WHAT!?

The other ones will not respond to any of my corospondance. Any ideas?

I hope you're only offering to pay back ONLY the principal on the illegal ones right? Anyway, I would just make it clear to them, IF they want their money, they will have to accept money orders via USPS, otherwise, they will get nothing. The ball is in your court with the illegal pdl's. Very Happy Your bank account is secure right? Just looking out for ya. Very Happy

I paid off 2 of my loans and within a few day got an email advising that because I was a good customer and paid off my loan, I could qualify for even more money...

YES!! Closing my bank account was the first step! My credit union was very helpful and understood. I am only offering to pay the PRINCIPAL amount. I learned allot from this site and am so grateful!

I am saving SO much money doing this on my own instead of using Langhorne.

PostPosted: Wed Jul 16, 2008 5:29 am Subject: Trying to get out of PDL mess!

My husband and I both have many PDLs, and they were killing us. All of our money was going to pay just the fees each week. It's so embarassing that we got into this mess. We make decent money and should not be in this situation. Because of paying so much in the fees, we've gotten behind on our mortgage and lots of other bills. The only thing getting paid on time was the PDLs! A couple of weeks ago we got the courage up to go into the bank and had our account frozen to debits and the bank gave us a new account number that we are now using for legitimate debts. We sent letters to each of the PDLs, but really haven't had much response. We also emailed the letters when we had an address. Here's what we have:

mine
BIG, loan $200, paid 3 $65 pmts ($195)
Total Lending, $300 loan, paid 5 $90 pmts ($450)
Payday-Loan-Yes, $350 loan, paid 6 $150 pmts + $50 ($680)
MultiLoan Source, $300 loan, paid 2 $90 pmts ($180)

husband
Little Loan Shoppe, $300 loan, paid 9 $90 pmts ($810)
Ambassador (Nationwide Cash), $300 loan, paid total $637.50
Paychecknow, $400 loan, paid total $670
Impact Cash, $300 loan, paid 2 $90 pmts ($180)
Payday-Loan-Yes, $350 loan, paid $105
Worldwide Cash, $200 loan, paid $89
Avantis Financial, $200 loan, paid $0

We got the letter back from WorldWide Cash saying they were no longer at the address (Concord Pike, Wilmington DE) and gave a UK address. Does anyone have a better US address or should I send the letter to the UK address?

A couple of the PDLs have continued to call us even though we've told them to contact us through USPS mail and email only.

Right after they received our letter, Total Lending replied by email that they no longer had our account and for us to contact icollect/AIS. I did contact them and tried to dispute the amount due because this loan has already been overpaid. I asked them to verify the debt in writing to me, and they refused. They said they purchased the debt and they don't have to verify it. They suggested I call the original debtor, which I did, who just referred me back to icollect and AIS. When you call icollect, you only get a recording and not a chance to speak with anyone. The rude guy at AIS told me that if I didn't pay it, the fees would continue to add up and it would keep reporting to my credit. Why should I have to pay more than what I've already paid to them? Can they report it to your credit? If the loan is basically illegal to begin with, how can they send it to a collection agency and then report it to your credit?

I'm only trying to pay what I actually owe and somehow see daylight again.

Any advice on the PDLs I'm dealing with? Oh, we live in Ohio.

Thanks!

mjj. . . the good thing is you haen't overpaid on any of these PDLs. Getting a refund can be time consuming so you won't have to deal with that aspect of the PDL world. I too considered Langhorne but they were rude and wanted a bundle of money to settle debts that I had already Paid in full. What's up with that? I know they are in business to make money but to me, they were no better than the situation I was trying to get out of. Having previously been involved in the PDL world, they should have known better. As for not hearing. . . you can either wait it out or bombard them with your C and D letter, which is what I did. Every day, morning and night, I emailed the same original letter to them. Eventually they knew I wasn't just a whistling Dixie. I came here in February with 5 PDLs and by early May I had totally cleared all of them and yes, I did it on my own. So, hang tight. You will be through this before you know it.
