I had done a payday loan at ace cash express in california. the account i wrote it on got closed and now i am being threatened that i will be put in jail for fraud. can they do this????????

Also if i maid a payment tonight can they still come after me and if they can what is the worst Consequence. i do want to pay them but i have to make payments please help me. Oh by the way i am being threatend by Leagl mediation practice they are really mena people

Carlos, is cash express a storefront? Also why is legal mediation practice after you? Is it for that pay day loan? You are right, they are the worst.

There are several members from CA who can advise you on this. I would say that if you did not write the check on a closed account and it was closed for you for other reasons, it would not be considered fraud. It does state that criminal action is prohibited in your state under your laws. I would recommend you contact the CA Department of Corporations and ask them about your issues. well the account was closed after the fact and that was in august i just got a harassing call from legal mediator practice and they said they will have me delt with at home or work whatever that menas. i want to make payments to get it cleared up but they said no all the money needs to be paid in full or else

They are sooooo bad. They are famous for threatening jail. Search them in the box at the top right of the page....you will find tons of stuff that members have experienced with them. Have you talked with the company to find out if they sent the account to collections? It would be worth trying to work out a payment arrangement with them. Are they storefront or internet pdl?

If this is a storefront (I'm thinking it is; however, we don't know for sure yet), it seems as though they went ahead and turned you over to collections since it has been since August. That's quite some time if you haven't made a payment on it. Criminal action is prohibited in your state; however, it can go to civil court. So the collection agency won't accept payments from you? They want all or none? If this is a storefront, try calling the corporate office and see if they can help you with this. If they can not and you do end up going to civil court, go. You will most likely just set up payments with them. This collection agency is not nice. Is this a storefont?

Yes it is a store front. i can pay the full amount but that is not intill next week do you think i will be ok waiting till then. The people calling me said they were legal mediators what is the worst that can happen if you i to civil court can they charge me more money or make me pay attorny fees.

Worrie. Call the store front and let them know of your intention to pay. Ignore the collection agency except to report them to the Attorney General for violating the law. They are not allowed to tell you they will have you arrested. They cannot arrest you period! They are saying that to get you to pay them right now. If you call the storefront and give them a reasonable repayment plan they should work with you. Dont let these loosers intimidate you and do report them to the BBB and the Ca. Attorney General. They are the ones breaking the law

As stargzr stated, report this "collection agency". File complaints against them with everyone you can think of. My gosh, you're able to pay the storefront next week. They should be willing to accept that. You're not even asking to make payments! You're basically just asking them to "hold" the check for another week. Most storefronts just want their money - period. Call them, tell them you will have pif next week & would be glad to give it to them. Do that and let us know what's going on. If they give you any problems, we may be able to help you with it.
