I have got myself in quite a jam and I am looking to get out as soon and a painlessly as possible. I am unable to close my bank account as I have read on this site is the best to do. This is because my account is in negative status and the bank has told me the account must be current in order to close it. But the balance will not clear until my paycheck is deposited. The bank has opened a new account for me to have my paycheck sent to but has not closed the other account. My bank is a small credit union. I have paid significant monies to most of the companies that I have dealt with. I have opened a new account and sent the follwing letter to my bank, which requested that I ask for an "ach block in writing". At the actual bank they told me that if I did not resolve my negative balance (which I fear will be higher on 9/30/08 when the PDLs post again), then the money will still be debited from my new account to clear the balance owed to them and then the account can be closed. I have not received a reponse yet to the letter below. This is really important since my next paycheck is schelduled for 9/30/08.
What is my next step? :

To Whom It May Concern:

I am revoking ACH authorizations from unlicensed/illegal companies, and have learned these companies are notorious for ignoring revocation; therefore it is important to BLOCK any withdrawal attempts on my account to protect my interest. There is also the strong possibility that these companies have sold or comprised my account information.

Please place my account (No. 147455) on “deposit only” status, an ach block, or a hard hold. This will prevent any fraudulent ACH's from reopening my bank account.

It's always best to close the bank account, if its been compromised, but I do understand and acknowledge my present debt to JFCU in the amount of $950.11. This will be cleared on 9/29/08, when my paycheck is direct deposited into my new account. However, upon payment to JFCU I need my old account (147455) to be closed immediately. Leaving it open gives ways for the then companies to continue to withdraw money. These companies have many different DBA's, so blocking them individually by name won't work. They might also attempt to produce paper checks and run them through my account.

Although I understand, you can not close the account until 9/29/08, when the balance is resolved, I still need my account put in deposit only status as of today. I look forward to your prompt action in this matter. Please call me to confirm when this has been done.

Thank You."

Seems to me like you need to be seeking a refund, if you cannot get that then you need to get a PIF on all of these except the last 3, pay the PRINCIPAL AND NOTHING more!

If they try and hit your acct again, you have the letter there, show it to your bank, fill out a fraud form and tell them they are not authorized to debit your acct any further!

i agree, they can freeze it. call and ask for a manager, if s/he cannot help, ask for someone else. it can be done and has to be done, for your sake.

I just recently had this occur to me. I had a neg bal in my acct and i spoke with the bank and they were not too helpful, i asked them about putting a block on my acct and stopping any and all withdrawls, she told they cant do that, they are already authorized. this doesnt make any sense to me. I got enough money last fri so they closed my acct, without my knowledge and put the remaining into my savings acct which was also neg. I had NO money this wk, so nice. Anyway she said well there is good news, your acct is closed HAHA dont think thats good news at!!
Well i still have to send out letters notifying these companies my acct is closed.
I hope all works out for you,
wendy

Internet payday lenders are not legal in NY, either because of restrictive laws, or because the state does not license companies not located in that state, but requires a state issued license to lend.

This account was made current and closed. The bank has pushed back all the debits that were attempted since the account was closed. Additionally, they have done a reverse ACH to claw back the money from companies that I have overpayed.

My bank was just bought out by USBANK and they have charged a ton of fees. The way some of the transactions were applied made my account go negative, which triggered a NSF fee of 8$ plus an overdraft fee of $35. I didn't know it was negative for about 5 days, which is when I got my new banking info and signed up for online banking with usbank. I saw about 85$ in NSF/overdraft fees. The bank reversed the fees, but the account was still negative, because an autopayment was allowed to go through by then. Which I had called the company to cancel, btw. They never canceled it. And the bank wouldn't close the account due to the negative balance, and still adds fees every day. I've had two more autopayments go through, and on top of all the neg bal fees, now I owe 451.53 to the bank. My verizon bill went through, for 250 so I'm going to dump 250 into that account, but I'm so frustrated because I can't catch up if the bank keeps adding more fees. I only get paid twice a month. WTF. I opened a new account through B of A and put some money in there, since I still need to LIVE. Otherwise I'd pay off USBANK and be done with it. But I don't get paid much, so I can't just pay them off in whole. I'm so irritated right now. Will USBANK be able to freeze the account - and not add more fees? I'm afraid of more autopayments going through. One is firestone, and they suck at canceling payments, apparently.

If you put 250.00 in the account it will just go toward the fees, not your verizon bill.

Amy...what you need to do is to notify those creditors that you are revoking their right to debit your account.

YOU NEED TO SPEAK WITH YOUR BANK ASAP and try to get this resolved...WHY did the account go NSF? Was it do to PDL's? Why did they charge you fees? Please clarify and perhaps we can help you better.
