Opened up my computer this morning to this
A very official E mail from the IRS( wow, now the IRS e mails us). Anyway , it goes on to say that there was an error found , and they owe me 368.14. Well. i know that they owe me 0.Actually I am paying them for some taxes that I owe. Any refund would go against that. All I have to do to get my "refund" is fill in the attached form. Guess what they need ? My bank routing number and my account #. If I dont give them that #, Any charge card will do(apparently they will put the money on a charge card?????), or finally they will take any bank deit card I may have. Have the IPDLS sunk to new lows? Ya think????

I received a similar email and forwarded it to the phising email at the IRS but have not heard anything bank from it. It did look pretty official with the IRS logo at the top.

Kash - Phishing is a type of e-mail scam designed to steal your identity. If you reply with account numbers and such then they use this to steal from you. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I did read on their website that this scam was going on. Thank god you didn't fall for that crap. It makes me mad because so many older people are going to be falling for that

You are right motomom...
I wish there were more warnings out too...I feel bad for people who aren't as knowledgeable about computers and don't realize what they are giving away...of course look what we did to with the ipdls...I am so much more cautious now!!!

It really is sad. If someone is desperate enough they will fall for it and potentialy lose everything. Horrible part is that there is nothing more we can do to warn people. We get good safe info here, but what about the people who dont know about us?

One of the sites I use to verify stuff is called: snopes.com....it covers just about every type of scam or mis info on the net.

I also got the one this week where I won $500,000 but needed to send $460 for insurance. I told them to deduct the insurance money and put the check in the mail. HA HA

No you were not nuts...we all did it...and I didn't see anything wrong with it at first either...not until I couldn't get out and tried to contact them for help...we learned a very valuable lesson...
