After a year (actually maybe longer) i had some companies come out of the woodwork.
One said I did not pay them but I got proof of my money order. The other keeps calling my job and emailing me for payments. Like a dummy I emailed them back from my work and am now so paranoid that they are going to tell my job I am on the work computer. They always threaten to do so. I guess I kind of panicked when I saw their email, as I have not gotten anything in such a long time. I really do not remember if I even fully paid this company! I think this actually might have been two years ago and I do not remember how much was borrowed or paid back but I sincerely doubt I owe them whatever they will claim I owe them.
I know loans are not legal in my state (NJ) and I know how to handle them and deal with it but what is a really good way to stop them from calling my job? I go on vacation in less than two weeks and I am so scared they will flood my job when I am away. I considered cancelling for this reason. I have been on shaky grounds with my employer and I do not want these jerks telling them I used company email. (why was i so stupid to do that??)

I have a few come out of the woodwork every now and then, even ones that I included in my bankrupcty almost three years ago. I had one even call my Aunt a month agao who just moved three states away from me and I've never even used her for a reference. I didn't even have her new number yet they were able to do some skip tracing to find her number...it's so crazy what they will try and do...But they are just waisting their time and mine.

i agree, i resent a c & d, it is so old i am not even sure how i handled it.. it was from before i came to this board.
like i said, i am worried they will call my work (which they have been doing everyday) but we will see if the c & d works.

Is this the OC or a CA? Either way, send them a letter that says they are not to call you at work...since they are illegal, I would go so far as to send them a C&D.

You might want to consider telling HR that you are being harrassed by a bill collector (that you've already resolved ) and have told them not to call you at work. The best defense is a good offense. Most people know how ruthless a CA can be and that they lie between their teeth. An employer can easily monitor your computer activity...they don't need someone to tell them.

Protect yourself and file complaints with the FTC, AG & BBB.

I believe, if they do call and expose your secret and you lose your job, you may have grounds to sue them for interfering with your employment.

thanks, it was the original creditor but listen to this!

You will be able to make payment arrangements, however due to your closed account and how long it took you to contact us, your account has been sent to our collections department. Collections will only contact you via phone so to avoid future turmoil, please answer so you can set up a payment plan with them. Thank you.

i am freaking out! i know that it's all bull, they will contact me via phone? I am so mad at myself for not emailing them sooner! at first I kind of ignored the situation (it has been a week or so) because I had so much going on and could not have been bothered by this illegeal company!
what should i write back? i know that collections does not have to contact me in writing only, i need a good standing for this.

I'd send a letter stating that you (they) are an illegal company, PDL's are NOT legal in NJ, you have been reported to the FTC, AG, BBB, ASPCA (just kidding on that last one).

And due to their illegal activities, you are demanding that any communication be done in writing so that you will have evidence to pursue legal actions for their harrassment and illegal activities. Hopefully THAT will get them to open their eyes and go away...

This came from SCP Customer Service.
Um, star cash processing I believe was the loan name.
i am not really worried i just hate the harrassment, and it's nonsense that I can only be contacted by phone. i never heard that one before! i like when they said answer the phone to avoid further turmoil. ha!
but even as i am laughing i am seriously freaking out because this harrassment is not cool and i would hate for them to call while i am away on vacation. it is seriously going to ruin my vacation..

well, my idenity was stolen last year (someone opened cable accounts in my name and social all the way across the country!)
so once in awhile I do get some weird calls at work. Plus those US National scumbags called my work for awhile. My work was understanding about it but how understanding will they always be, ya know??
I followed your advice. At first I sent them nice emails, mainly because their harrassment scares me (I am such a whimp)
but their email had me mad! i wrote back the strongly worded one that is used as a template here, I restated NJ laws, and resent my c & d letter I mentioned that per my attorney and the attorney general's office, all communication must be in writing.
i know this will make them even more upset but i never heard of anything like that! they will only contact me via phone?? and they are collections?? please. this company is not even legal and i have had enough of being scared to answer my phone!

thanks i am going to mail it certified. I just paniced I guess and emailed them back right away. I got another lovely message..
i am like paranoid now, i know their "legal team" is nothing but a false threat but I am going to be honest.. they scare me. what should my next steps be?

We do not accept any funds through the mail, collections will only accept debit or credit cards. Though we appreciate your interest in research on payday loans, we are not running illegally. It would be impossible for us to still be in business if we were not abiding by the law. You are liable for the loan as when you completed the application with your electronic signature (which is legally binding) you were aware of the rates that you agreed to by contract. When you sign a contract it becomes a legally binding document. All of the emails and contact, as well as all information provided by you, as well as your signed application is on file and is being sent to our compliance department and legal team. Please do not email customer service again as your account has been sent to collections. Their email is collections@starcashprocessing.com
