I paid this pdl off and they did not return my original check they sent me a photo copy of it? Shouldn't they have sent my original check back to me? Why would they do that? They also asked me if I had a new account....like I would tell them if I did.

They should have given you the original check back. Have you called them and asked? I know you are smart enough not to even answer the question about another account. But I would get on them to get your original check back.

I am with Puddle. Get the check back. No telling what they will try to do with it.

I agree too. Getting that check back is a must. They can still cash it.

The copy of the check they sent has NSF stamped on it along with VOID STAMPED in red ink twice on it. Why do you suppose they did this that way. Is it normal to have gotten it this way? It is also stamped on the back of it Return Check. I do not want to call them...should I just send them a letter requesting my original check and also ask them why they just sent me a photocopy of it?

I would still request the original for the simple fact that there is no real proof that they stamped the actual check. Does it appear to be the actual check they stamped? They could have photocopied the original and stamped the photocopy and then photocopy that copy and sent it to you so that you would think the original is voided. Nonetheless, you should of received the original check back. The loan is paid off, there is no reason for them to keep the original check.

To me it does look legit...but however what concerns me is why did the moron ask me if I had another account. He was someone new there that said he was the branch manager and had called me twice in one week asking me for the balance on my account. When I told him that had spoken to him two days ago he claimed that it wasn't him. Well I talked to the girl I had been dealing with that was the store manager and she said that he was "new". I don't trust them, however what do I do if they tell me they don't have the original any longer? Shouldn't they be required by state law to return it once the debt is paid in full?

Yes they should of given you the original back. Just like when you payoff your mortgage, you get the original back. Ladybug, something just doesnt sound right. I hope that account is closed just in case they try to cash it.

Yeah it's closed because when I first tried to make arrangements with them they told me they had to submit to my bank to have them stamp account closed or nsf on it. The word VOID is stamped in red ink on the photocopy of the check..also it is stamped on the front closed do not re-present....i am going to send them a letter i don't trust these fools...after everything i have read about them. However, the girl that I was dealing with was very nice and very helpful..it's just this stupid jerk that I was dealing with this last time that really p-d me off. Oh well...what can I do if they don't return it?
Sorry I don't want to seem stupid but it really bugs me.

Is the check stamped by the bank or the PDL?

Take a deep breath Ladybug. LOL. Im thinking the guy maybe asked you if you had a new account under the impression that maybe the loan was not paid in full because of the check being stamped closed. He is new to the company. Im pretty sure you tried to tell him it was PIF but it could be that he just wasnt paying attention or listening and thought he had a bad check/unpaid loan on his hands. In any event, I would ask the girl that you were dealing with in the past, to sent you something in writing saying that the loan is paid in full to go with the copy of the voided check.

If the check is stamped by the bank, then they are not going to give you the check back. Because that is their proof that you closed the account on them.

Okay, I bet that you are right he is new and probably doesn't know how to handle things like that:, so I will give him a break. To me it looks legit...I am just paranoid, and I don't think anyone can blame me considering what some of these pdl's do to people . Thanks for all of your advice.

I don't blame you a bit! When I got a refund from Rio 2 years ago I cashed the check at Walmart because I was afraid they'd debit my account! Better to be safe than sorry!

I agree with you fins...the kid probably didn't know what to do since most of us have had to rewrite checks when we go in there to pay the first one off..I know I used to have to.
