what do you do if the state you live in, it is against the law for pay day loans, but where your bank is, it is ok?

Well, that is an interesting question. It seems like it would still be "illegal" for them to give you a PDL. But, I am just guessing---someone else will have to take this one.

If I am in a payday loan debt trap and have paid more than owed then I would have closed the bank account so that the pdl can't debit money from my account. But before doing this you should also go through What to do after closing bank account.

paydayloan yes will not be licensed in any terms,so you should
not have that issue with the bank, but do as phoenix advises
because each state varies in respect to closing an account.

Craftsbybre, are you stating that your bank offers PDLs?

I'm not sure that it matters much, but I have a question about what you mean.
Did you open the account online or at a local branch, and if at a local branch, was it a state other than your own?
I have always been told, by the bank, that my bank was considered to be the branch where I opened the account, even if the bank was headquartered in another state. Even if the branch that I opened the account at happened to close, they transfer my account to the next closest one (TCF, years ago, called me to ask what branch I would like my account transferred to).

I believe the PDL has to be licensed in the state of your residence (or if your state does not have licensing requirements, then where the PDL is located), not where your bank is.
