|

I have 3 loans that I’m due to payoff next week.
Obviously, I am not going to give them my new bank account information. So my question is, is it really safe to pay them with Moneygram or Western Union? I would much rather do it that way.
Has anyone had any experiences with this issue?

I don't see a problem with it but another site www.budhibbs.com by a consumer lawyer says never to do it but I don't know why. One person suggested to get a prepaid credit card and do it that way. I prefer money orders although the Pay Day Loan companies will do everything to keep from being paid that way.

I will prefer money order to send the payment, because Western Union is a bit costly. Inform the company about your payment plan and get their money order receiver code.

I don't think it would be a problem to use Money Gram or Western Union. I think it's just an issue for some people because of the cost. However, I don't believe you put any "personal" information on there, so you should be safe. And isn't there a way to verify that the company received it also? I think you'd be fine. It's just that some people don't want to pay the cost, which I understand. However, in the case of money orders, which I'm all for, you have to have an address and make sure it gets into the correct hands, etc. Some of these places, you can't get an address for - let alone be sure it's going to get into the correct hands and credited to your account. If I'm wrong about jen being safe using Money Gram or Western Union - please correct me. But I believe you are, as no "personal" information is used. One company did tell me to put my ss# on there as the account number. First of all, I never sent them money and second - I wouldn't recommend doing that! I wouldn't put my ss# on there. But that's just me. They can find your account by your name.

cajun, is that true? They are hard to trace? I do find it totally believeable that it would be incredibly hard to trace who actually received it, as you only put some kind of "company code" or "id" or something on there, right? So you would never know exactly where it went? That is why I stated that I am all for money orders. They are cheaper and you can send them certified return receipt and track it yourself. However, the hard part is finding an address to send it to. But, if they want their money bad enough, they'll give an address. I keep getting demands for payments via Money Gram or Western Union only. I won't do it just because I find it hard to swallow that they won't accept money orders as a form of payment. I've argued with these people until I'm blue in the face and still won't get a physical address from them to mail a payment. So....they get nothing.

I called Western Union when I was paying United Pay Services and when you use the quick collect form it goes directly to the companies printer. So when you use that and they type in all the info the company has a printer set up from western union and it prints out checks to them right away. And when you use quick collect nobody but law enforcement officials can get ANY info about the company from western union. I tried to get my money back but that failed. Now I just go to my credit union and put money on a visa gift card ($3 service charge) and give them that number and then however much is on the card is all they can get. And you will know who got the money and when because you can always call for a statement. I feel that is safe and they are always willing to get a credit card number so my PDL's loved getting paid that way and I also told them to e-mail me a PIF letter before I hung up from them and they did. So both the company and I were happy. But the only thing with the gift cards are they are not reloadable like the pre paid ones from walmart. But for me I don't care because it would cost me $20 in gas just to get to a walmart for western union or a pre paid credit card.

I agree with the fact that if these places want their money bad enough, they will take a money order. I don't see any reason to PAY to send them money when you have paid them plenty already. This is just another way for them to screw you over and cost you more money and if they can't give you a legitimate address to send a money order to, then they are not a legitimate company!!!!! Shocker there, huh!!!!!!!

That's my whole issue, sass. I say everyone can pay however they feel like paying; however, I want a physical address, a persons name, etc. to mail a money order to. You will know where it went, who got it, and you can track it. I think that's why these pdl's insist so much to Money Gram or Western Union. Now that I've read the above posts - they know that no one will know what company actually got the money. As in my case with Cash Today. When they wanted me to Money Gram them $100, they gave me a "company code" to put on there and the name was HBS Services. What the??? So it was an entirely different name than Cash Today or any of their d/b/a's that they use! Totally blows me away!

EXACTLY!!!! That's why Payday Avenue never got any money from me, for the simple fact that they wouldn't give me a physical address. If they had just done that, they would have gotten their principle back. But since they wanted to be like that, my state's AG got on their a$$es and then Payday Avenue marked me PIF.

I got a response from the NACA Attorney when I asked him why you should never pay by western union. His answer, "I don't believe in paying debt collectors, period!"
I just sent a certified letter to a PDL who told me on the phone they had no mailing address. The BBB had one for them. They almost always do. Like I always say, No address, no payment. I refuse to pay a ghost!

Oh, that's good to know! Because a bunch that I filed with the AG, I made sure to inform them that these pdl's refused to give me a physical address to mail payment to. They stated they would only accept Money Gram or Western Union. Maybe that makes a difference to them.

Frogpatch, I completely agree with refusing to pay a ghost!!! I like your NACA attorney's attitude, too!!!
cannr-maybe so. I think the ones that won't give physical addresses for are also highly illegal and that gives the AG more ammunition against them, too.

Believe it or not it was CashNetUSA who I thought was one of the few good ones. Their collection people are whackos. They play good guy bad guy with you. But never put anything in writing. They call my job after telling them not too. They make you an offer and then take it away. They are just plain weird. But they are licensed. I just sent two letters to them. One to collections and one to the president asking him (or her)what happened to their good reputation? I also told them I was filing all the usual complaints for harrassment.

Believe it or not, Star Advance told me it was fine to send a money order, and gave me an actual address!! I think those guys are pretty good when it comes to PDLs, their fees are reasonable and they are very nice to work with.
Payday2go told me I would need to Moneygram it, and so did mycashnow. I am still debating on whether or not to do it. I'm leaning more towards no.
