PDL and Identity Theft Protection

Check this out! As I was driving back from Walmart this morning, I'm passing all the usual storefronts that I normally have to stare at each day. However, one in particular caught my eye. They have a big sign (that they usually put stuff on to lure people in there). Well, today on their sign, it says:

IDENTITY THEFT PROTECTION
ONLY $9.95
ONE YEAR MEMBERSHIP

I was like "Oh, no! You've GOT to be kidding me!" Can you believe this? Like I'm (or anyone else) going to go to a storefront pdl and sign up for them to "protect my identity". HELLO!

Just wondering what you guys think of a pdl claiming to "protect your identity" for a small fee of $9.95 for a one year membership.

WTF??? Shocked

I would not have them protecting anything about me, they would not get a dime of my money for anything. They rip enough people off already. Must be payday loan business is going down if they have to branch out into other industries huh?

I agree! I was shocked to see this! And saying it's like "asking the fox to guard the hen house" is priceless!

Is it the PDL selling this on behalf of a 3rd party who actually provides the service? I cant see how the PDL themselves actually "protect your identity". My employer offers this service for $5 a month, but its another company that actually provides it.

But yea, not sure that a pay day lender would be the first place I would go to buy this service. But I am sure they are taking advantage of any and all cross-marketing opportunites.

cannr I'm all for pdls cross-training and doing something less harmful to the community, but this is not it. I think this would make them do even more damage under the guise of protecting people. It's horrifying!

I'd be curious to know the details of the arrangement. Not that I need protecting.
