hi Krista--
Chances are pretty good that "see you in court" was nothing more than a scare tactic. What you should do is contact your state's attorney general office. File a complaint there, inform them of this. Most AG's will take this kind of crap seriously. Above all, DO NOT PAY THEM ONE PENNY WITHOUT THEM PROVIDING PROPER LEGAL VALIDATION.
File the complaint, let the AG investigate them. If they are indeed closed, then this is nothing more than a scam trying to get money from you. But the AG will get to the bottom of that mess, hopefully. Dont panic---I somehow doubt that they are seriously going to sue you, and if they did, we can answer questions and point you in the right direction. As it stands now, they have already broken federal law, so keep us updated on this.

Consumers need to put pressure on our government to intervene and pursue these criminals.

Krista -
Pull a copy of your credit reports [free from annualcreditreport.com]. If they're listed on your reports, you have more ammo for a possible legal action.

Well I pulled 1 of my reports and they were not on it. Everytime I try to pull my transunion report it asks for a name and password which I do know know so I have not see my TU report for years. I pulled experian a few months ago when trying to refinance our home so it would cost to pull that one.
Are these people breaking the law? I put their name into google (the name is Vincent P. Cignarale Attorney) and it says he is a "Rent-a-Lawyer" and a sham. Not sure what all that means.

Search his name on this site, using the search box in the top/right corner of this page. You should get all kinds of info on him.

Wow sounds like he is trouble. Should I send him a debt validation letter? I mean they said they were gonna send me a letter but from the looks of things they have failed to send letters to others. I just do not want this to come back to bite me in the butt.
I have worked hard to try to fix my credit after a bad divorce and I do not want to take another hit or even worse get sued.

MS, send them a letter requesting they validate the debt. Here is a link to a letter on the fourm someone posted. It is pretty inclusive. Be sure to send it certified return receipt so you have proof they received it.
