I have 4 payday loans and while I have not defaulted on any if I continue to pay on them I can't pay my rent, car payment,etc. They are debited out of my account and don't want them to be and want to try to settle otherwise. What step s can I take to stop the payments from coming out of my account.

You need to close your account. That is the only way to get them to stop.... Go to the "Payday Loan Help" forum and read the sticky on closing your account.
