What can I do to stop harrassing phone calls at work?

I needed some financial help to repair my car before Christmas and ended up taking out 5 internet cash store loans. Then someone started withdrawing unauthorized funds from my checking account so I closed it. Now I have all these places harassing me at work, home from work, on week-ends, etc., even though I've made payment arrangements with several of them they still harass me. One called me at work and wouldn't hang up even though I told them I couldn't talk because I work at a prison and we're not allowed personal phone calls. They called back, then called the armory where I work and told them we got disconnected, then told me I had to pay $850 (on a 350.00 loan) because of court fees, collection fees, etc., or else they would be sending the sheriff to my place of employment and I would end up losing my job because of internet fraud. What can I do?

Send a letter asking them not to contact you anymore. Here is an example you could use on this site

Once they get this letter, collection agencies are no longer to contact you at work. It is the law.

First off, welcome to the site.

Please post this question in the Pay Day Loan section along with the names of the PDL companies, the amount you borrowed, the amount that has been payed and what state you live in.

When you post in the PDL section of this site you'll notice you are not alone, heck theres a whole section here for PDL's.

Post the info and myself and many others will help you get started getting out of this.

Many of the internet PDL's are illegal and have no legal recourse to collect so they rely on harassment and threats, claiming internet fraud is one of their many tricks.

Don't worry--you are going to find out that this threat of sending the police after you is a common one that these IPDL's use. And since you work at a prison, I would call their bluff and say something like "Let me save you the time. He's down the hall, want me to go get him?" Don't put up with this!

Send a partial cease communications letter to them stating that you'll only deal with them in writing. Send certified return reciept.

Thank you everyone for your help. My other questions are: how can I pay these loans off over time at smaller payments, is there someone that could help me do this or talk them into smaller payments? If I try to pay them all I have nothing to live on. They are very hard to reason with and seem to think I can pull money out of a hat, I told them if I could borrow the money at a bank and pay them off I would but why do they think I came to them and paid 500% interest in the first place? Also, can they take legal action and if so, what? I feel like I'm losing my mind over this mess - I live alone and really have no one to turn too. I could afford to pay 300 to 400 a month off on all of them but not every paycheck. Thanks everyone

Judy, before you pay anything list the names of the PDL companies and what state you live in. Also list the original loan amount and anything you have paid towards them. There are many people on here that can and will help you but they need the above information.

My wife is in the same line of work as you,so I know you don't need the stress of the job along with the stress of PDL's. If you are using your real name (Judy Eaton) I also think it's a good idea to log in and use your registered name, I'd almost guarantee PDL company employees troll this forum.
