Texas has a law that you can be prosecuted if a loan was taken with the deliberate attempt to commit fraud. Like closing you account and trying to hide or using stolen identity.

Are they threatening to put you in jail? Are these store front or internet loans? They can't just come knocking on your door and take you off to jail do do not worry about those threats, they have to go through the court system and sue you before any legal action can be taken against you, even then the liklihood of going to jail for unpaid debts are slim to none. Someone who is more familiar with Texas PDL's will be along to help you shortly. It would be a great help if you would please list the name of the comapanies, the amount borrowed, and amount paid back.

That is if you tried to actually defraud them, which would have to be proven. However if you simply defaulted on the loan then no. You may even be able to file your own suit against them for violation of the fdcpa.

If everyone that defaulted on a loan were put behind bars, half the nation would be in lock down. Everything is negotiable. debt collectors need to stop playing hard ball and develope both a conscience and a heart.

Point made mericats
Also keep in mind though that debts are generally civil matters, not criminal and therefore not subject to criminal prosecution/incarceration via criminal court.
