I got a call just like that about two weeks ago. The man said his name was Peter Mclophlin from the department of "Law Enforcement" " Dispute Resolution". He stated that I owed $803.00 from a supposed cash advance that I received in April 2009. I then asked him where did this originate and for him to fax me something in writing. I told him that to my knowledge I don't owe anything and that is why I wanted to see who and what company I supposedly owed. He couldn't give me a straight answer and started getting alittle argumentive with me. I told him to stop calling me at work, he then stated the police was going to show up at my place of employment, because what I was doing was a "Federal offense". I told him that I needed to do my own investigation before I release any of my personal information. I also asked that why wasn't it on my credit report if this account was in "collections" and why didn't that specific company ever call me to collect the money. He still didn't give any info, the only info he did give was that the bank the I owed was U.S. National Bank. He did give a number 216-744-2041. I called it and the person answered like "Hello" ..I was like "am I calling "US National Bank..he was like uhhh
yeah!! WTF!!! I'm like trying to get info from the person, no luck. They both sounded middle eastern and both with American names. This sounded fishy to me. So I called my local Sherrif dep. He told me not to give them any of my personal info. because they sounded like a fraud or a scam. These people buy your information from the internet and since they have your information, they try to intimidate you, to get you to pay them. Don't do it..it's a scam. They almost got me for a moment, but I looked through all of my doc's, luckely I keep everything. Don't call them anymore they are not supposed to harrass you at all. He finally called me one last time and I just told him to f- off and that if wanted to send the police to go right ahead and that I would see him in court, if that was even true..yeah right. I also told that I had talked to my local sherrif dep and that he was being recorded. He stopped calling since then.
