Can you post some more information about your situation? What companies have you borrowed from? How much was each loan? And how much have you paid back so far in fees and such?

So what can I do about the companies who aren't licensed? Do I still have to keep repaying them?
I've already stopped my direct deposit from going into my checking account, so that's a start........going to visit the bank tomorrow and see about closing my account.

Going to work on sending letters and closing my bank account today........
What happens next? Can the illegal ones do anything to me once I stop allowing them access to my bank account? I feel a little bit more hopeful having seen the forums here, but I've gotta admit that I'm still very nervous.......

No, they can't do anything to you at all. They will call and try to scare you into paying, but there is NOTHING they can do but call you.

Same user, just went and registered.........
Is there anything I can do to stop the phone calls (which I'm guessing will come) from reaching me at work?

My understanding is there is nothing you can really do about the phone calls. I am waiting for mine to start too... I have been advised to send them to voice mail if possible and then make notes. Some also will tell you to have your coworkers and you all tell them you no longer work there. I told my coworkers not to answer my phone and to let it go to voice mail. I also let them know there had been illegal activities in my checking account, I closed the account and now the illegal copmanies are harassing me. They all agreed to do what they could to help. I am sure others will give you advice as well.

Can anyone give me an idea of how long this nightmare will last with these companies?

There really isn't a time frame. Sometimes you will get a PIF right away, and other times you will have to fight for a few months. The same company will act differently with people in the same situations.

Went to the bank and they were fantastic.......even going to put back the NSF fees into my account that these jerks ran up on me!!
I would love it if someone could post the contact info for the loans I have, so I know how to get everything else going......
