Hi, My Name is Linda and I live in PA. My husband got a notice from afni stating that we owe $153.09 to Verizon at a very, very old address. It has been at least 7 yrs. Can they still come after us for that money? I thought that the statute of limitations was 4yrs for PA? Thanks for your help.

They can continue to collect but they can't sue you for it.

Thank you. Now is it true that the SOL in PA is 4 yrs. What if I have something on my credit report from a collection agency that has might be over 4 yrs? It is for medical. I went to the ER and did not have insurance at the time. They are now coming after me for it and its on my credit report. The date of incident was 4/7/03.

I don't know if medical bills have a different time frame on medical billing since some of those rules are slightly different.

SOL for a lawsuit is different from the amount of time a negative entry can remain on your credit report.

Generally speaking, a late/charge off will remain on your credit for 7 years.

So, basically, something negative can stay on your credit report for 7 or so years, but the right to use the court system to collect can be shorter? I get so confused with all of this stuff. Smile

Yes, and in some cases, the SOL for litigation is longer than the credit reporting limitation.

PS...what an odd avatar. I like it.
