The Wonders of Baking Soda

Baking Soda - Anyone use this stuff?

Its cheap and has so many uses.

I started using it as a foot powder and it has been better than anything else I have tried over the counter. Not to get too gross but I also had a minor athletes foot deal and it cleared up that as well.

You can use it as a cleaner, deodorizer, and even for brushing teeth and as a soap. And of course for baking. Not that I use it for any of the above except for cleaning counters.

Perhaps with all this high tech and advertising we are forgetting a time tested multi purpose product.

I bought my last box of Arm and Hammer for 59 cents.

Baking soda is great.

It's really good if you get a lot of buildup in your hair from styling products, or chlorine in swimming pools..Or hard water. You just mix about 1/4 cup of baking soda in a big container of warm water, and pour it on your hair. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out. Then wash it normally with shampoo and condition. It gets all the junk out. Smile

It's also good for softening bath water if your skin is itchy.

Oh my goodness... Baking soda takes care of athletes foot better than anything else!

My husband was sunburnt badly last week, and a baking soda paste made it less painful..

It cleans out a coffee pot..

And don't forget how it makes your fridge smell!

With Baking Soda and Water you can clean a 12v Car Battery. It neutralizes the acid.

I am just starting to notice all the uses. Plenty here that I would not have thought of.

How can you cook with this stuff and use it as a cleaner?

Speaking of car batteries, you can use Coca Cola to clean corrosion off a car battery...Learned that in Driver's Ed class....I also heard you can dissolve a penny in coke.

Makes you wonder what it does to your stomach...Razz~ But it's yummy.

It's scary to think you can cook with something that cleans!

This has NOTHING to do with the subject, but here's something a little bit gross...When I was first in college, I worked at Mcdonald's. We did a little test one day..We took a fresh big mac and let it sit in the bin for 20 minutes. When we opened the box, all the lettuce had disintigrated, like it was never even there. Always special order your big macs!

Jess, they tried various things with coke on the Myth busters. I don't think it worked very well. I think it cleaned the penny though.

My hubby is a hunter and uses baking soda to wash his hunting clothes in. Seems it gets rid of all smells so he can sneak up on the deer, though, thank goodness it hasn't worked real well for him-Poor Bambi Crying or Very sad ...Karen

MMMMMmmm...McGriddles are my downfall!

Anyone ever use Mule Team Borax?
That stuff is fabulous! If you have pets, sprinkle it on your carpets and let sit for an hour or so, then vacuum. It deodorizes and kills fleas!

Oh my...The bus memories are ones I'd prefer to forget! A bus pulling in equalled nothing less than hysteria

I once tried putting baking soda into fruit juice to turn it into fruit soda. It worked only on grape juice, making it fizzy, didn't taste exactly the same though.

Wow. Did it taste bad?

I don't think baking soda tastes nasty, exactly...It has a slight resemblance to confectioner's sugar. Hmmm...Making fruit soda isn't anything I'd ever thought of. Definite points for originality, Ari! That's why you are a brilliant editor-in-chief!
