Hi Gang,
Well, I had the rug pulled out from under me today at work. It happened late this afternoon. My boss called myself and the other office partner into his office for a meeting. It turns out that they are cutting the office down to one person again. I have worked for this company for nearly six years. I have been the office manager the whole time but we merged with another company last spring. One of their office workers came over to our location. It seems that we both have to apply for the one office position that is open. Wow, this was a big slap in the face today. I've spent a lot of time crying, screaming, and trying to be level headed. I feel bad for the other gal and my heart goes out to her. I had a long discussion with my boss after she left this evening. I know he was worried about both of us and he has to listen to his bosses. He said that he had to post the job internally and wanted to be fair to both of us. It still stings and hurts to be honest with you. I'm confident but not overly confident that I will continue in my current position. I understand because of the merger and all our policies that things have to be done this way but it doesn't take the sting of the situation away. This comes a month after that my boss beg and pleaded for me to say when I had a different job offer. Ironic, huh? I'm sure I will talk with him more tomorrow. It's just weird that I have to apply for a position that I have been doing for so long. Keep your fingers crossed for me that things will be okay

Mishele, I'm sorry. when it rains it pours, doesn't it? I believe that you will never get more than you can handle, though.
Stay positive..you have my thoughts and prayers. Things will work out for the best, I promise you.

Hey girl, best of luck to you. Remember things happen for a reason and I just went through being cut to part-time so now I have a new job and probably will have another (better) offer tomorrow. Good luck! Keep you head up, it will work out for the best!

Mishele,
That does suck. What's bad about a merger like that is they always wind up cleaning house and the people who pay for it are the employees. Stay strong and let us know what happens!

Hang in there, I'm sure things will work out for the best. If your boss is making the final decision, and you have been with him for a while (and he had to beg you to stay in the face of another offer) then I would think the chances are pretty good you'll continue on. But your right it does feel like a bit of an insult to have to re-apply and re justify your position.

Mishele--Everything will work out for the best. I'm sure everything will be fine..They just have to follow policy. You've been there for 6 years..If that doesn't say they should keep you, then the heck with them, right? That just means there is something better for you. Love ya!

Tehn one day, my boss says,oh by the way we have lost some funding and I am cutting your office and contract out so so and so can work. She had more education,no life experience and was about 24 years younger!!! So,yeah it does hurt, and is kinda a slap.Hang in there.Hope your mom is doing ok...Karen

Well, I'm feeling better about things. The other person has almost fifteen years with the other company. But I am the better worker, not too toot my own horn. I have the knowledge and work ethic behind me. Yes, I am praying about this. It sucks that this has to happen but it's life. I think that I will be fine. Karen, my mom is doing good. I took her too her last radiation/chemo appointments on Wednesday. They even gave her a little certificate for finishing her radiation. We go back to Columbus to see her surgeon at the end of the month. At least round one is done.

I am glad to hear your mom finished her chemo. Things have a way of working themselves out in time, I pray that you will be the one who gets the position! I can remember a few years ago when they called an emergency meeting at my place of employment, the union came in and we knew it was all about doom and gloom then. In one day without noticed they abolished nearly half the jobs in a few departments and then a few others here and there, nearly cut our staff by 50% when all was said and done in the meeting. Everything goes by seniority, so even if you were the better worker, it is based on seniority.

Mishele-YAY! Your mom finished her chemo! That's awesome. I'm sure she'll be feeling much better now.
Call me when you're in Columbus! I'm open after 6 every day, and I don't work at all Tues and Weds--We'll go to dinner or something! (And your mom is invited too, of course!)
Love ya girlie!

Thanks everyone. I am keeping a more positive attitude about this now. I guess I was in shock for a few days and then on the pity pot. With my company, it is not based on seniority, it's based on work performance. We had a friend over Friday night and he really helped me out. He said maybe this was supposed to happen since my mom is sick right now. He pointed out that I would get unemployment and told me how to find out more information about it now. My mom helped me revamp my resume yesterday afternoon so I'm feeling a little bit better.
