Okay, this may seem like a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway. I was looking at the classifieds online and found a job that I want to send my resume into. It is asking for a narrative letter about myself along with the resume. Would this be considered the same as a cover letter?

Yes, just start off about "This letter is in regards to the position......"
Mention your goal, I usually put when I'm looking for part time work "I am seeking a long term, part time position to supplement my income"
I don't know why I went into that, I'm sure you know what you are doing.

And just give a brief overview of your past experiences without going into the detail that is covered by your resume.

Okay, so basically it's just a cover letter. Cool! This would be a great position from the sounds of it. Thanks for your help

Why on earth don't they just tell you it's a cover letter?!
I am sooo dumb when it comes to resumes, I got my job right out of college, I was pretty much placed. I've never really had a resume, isn't that ridiculous?

lmao!! I know, I'd be telling them my favorite color and all about my best childhood friends. Hey, that's a narrative, right? Um, should I read it out loud?
Jinkies, I think I need to take a resume writing class..You scared me, how could I ever get another job?

Mishele My son is in pre-law in college. They just had to do something like this. He said you need to write a letter describing why you would be good for the job. Narrative is descriptive. Good Luck Hope it helps I will give you his e-mail if you want. He is also a journalism major so he knows about writing. KYSIDE38

Good Luck Mishele! I am resume dumb- I got all my jobs by talking my way into them Then I sound really desperate and tell them I really need this job and can do an excellent job! Once I told them I knew how to run a switchboard, just not the one like they had, so could they show me how to use theirs!! I didn't have a clue-but I got the job, guess they were desperate!...Karen

Mishele--The cover letter gives you a chance to show your personality and why you would be the perfect person for the job.

I have found a great sample of a cover letter that I'm going to use. I will add my flair and personality to it. I've never written one before so I'm kind of nervous. My sister said my resume looked awesome though and helped me redo it again. So, I'm glad about that. Tomorrow is the interview process and then off to Columbus. I found a job that I'm also interested in retail management. I did that prior to the position that I have now. So I guess I will apply for that as well I also applied with my hubby's company for a CSR manager.
