I saw this on a job search board, can you say this is a good way to have shotgun shoved in your face. If this post violates the posting rules someone delete it for me and my apologies

Quote:
COLLATERAL SPOTTERS, PART TIME, WORK EVENINGS

We are looking for someone to run chases for us in Tennessee. The job entails working about (4) days a week with flexible hours. You must have a reliable vehicle, some map skills and the internet. Your disposition must be professional and chases taken care with a 48 hour turn-around.

The job includes downloading a letter addressed to a debtor, taking that letter to the address provided and knocking on that person's door to confirm the following: 1.) If the debtor still lives at the address provided; 2.) Find out if the debtor is working and where; 3.) Find out if the collateral (i.e. car, truck)is still in the debtor's care and in what condition is it in; 4.)If the debtor can call the creditor in your presence to set up a payment. These are some of the tasks of a "Field Agent".

Yeah that is certainly one way of risking your life. Especially in TN -- can't they start shooting as soon as they give you a warning to get off their property?

Probably some finance company got tired of repo-ing smashed up cars with no value... so they want someone to go out and see if the car is actually worth picking up.

My husband and I replied to this ad and have actually done work for them for the past eight months. There are very strict regulations we must adhere to. We have always been very successful and only once had an issue with a debtor that got irate with us. In that case, we promptly left and reported reaction to the company. These companies do not want to repo the vehicle but just need to find out what is going on with the person. People are much more willing to speak to a person at the front door rather than some person on the phone they can't see.

Guest I disagree.I would not want someone coming to my house who I don't know from adam and would be near my kids. My state(La.) also has a policy of a landowner defending his family or property. Very Happy

In Alaska we are allowed to shoot if we feel threatened, and the law of retreating has been removed. Care to come knock on MY door? I felt threatened, your Honor.

Here in Portland, OR, I'm sure we cannot shoot people, unless it's a driveby. Those guys always seem to get away with it. But, in eastern Oregon, in the high-desert, it's still the wild west with cowboys and ranchers. They probably have no problem taking a debt collector down. Sweet!

That is a job that I wouldn't want. I certainly wouldn't want someone knocking on my door and that is considered trespassing.

I am not positive, but in IL, you have to have probable cause. However, that is pretty simple. You ask someone to leave your property. If they refuse to leave, you can plead self defense IF you go to court.

No way, no how would I do this job. I value my life too much. I don't care how many "good experiences" the guest has had (no offense, guest), but it only takes one BAD experience to make one DEAD "field agent"

I so agree and no one better knock on my door!!! Years ago when I was first a newly single parent of an 8 and 4 year old..someone broke into our apartment in the middle of the night...yes!! Smashed in my kitchen window with a tire iron and stole my purse from the kitchen counter...amoung the glass breaking and my daughters screams I went after the guy...fortunately he left with his tire iron before I reached him but I learned quickly how to protect myself...including but not limited to learning to shoot...

Unless the sheriff's office is there with them, with papers, it could also be called trespassing.

What the hell? Guest, you actually are doing this? For 8 months? You're knocking on people's doors regarding their debts? (Well, at least I now know what "downloading" is. LOL!) You've got to be kidding me. Who in the world would want to do this "job"? I'm sorry, but to be quite honest, I would have the cops on my cell phone within 1 second of someone knocking on my door regarding a "downloaded" debt letter and asking me questions.

Where I live the cops would be called strictly to send the meat wagon out for leftovers.I mean hell 95% of our small community are strapped in their home. This would be a dangerous job to have. Why do you think cops do all our process serving here? Laughing

Anyone willing to knock on a stranger's door regarding debt is obviously looking for trouble.

I would never do this, not for any amount of $$!
Remember, I live in TN (not originally from here, LOL)!
Rednecks and Hillbillies, etc., and they can get very irate. I would never want to knock on their door and verify they are working! Extremely dangerous. OMG, I can't believe someone does this type of work, willingly!!!! NO WAY!
