Sometimes I think they should raise the driving age to 18. I am sorry to hear about your daughters friend. I was taught by my grandpa and he taught me that you have to drive your vehicle and the other persons also. Sometimes that is easier said than done.

Around our area, in the past few years, there have been so many accidents involving teenagers and so many deaths. Some are due to inexperience, some are due to alcohol, some are due to trying to be cool. My son is 17 and still only has his permit. Reason (and not just insurance), is I do not feel he has had enough driving experience to warrant getting his regular license. Even with me in the car, he tries to act "cool" and we have words over it. He is not a bad driver, per say, but just not enough experience and maybe not quite mature enough yet. He's getting there, but not quite. I always point out kids that are not driving responsibily and sometimes it hits close to home when some of these kids have been in some of his classes at school. He's getting better, and soon we will get his regular license, but for now...

Maybe a little over protective, but I would rather be safe than sorry. He is my only son.

Thanks, Tammy - it was (and still is) a hard thing for her to deal with. It was all so preventable, and on top of it, she lost another friend that year to a gun accident, and two more of her friends were involved in an accident where they killed someone riding a bicycle on the side of the road.

Thank you Tweety. Her and her family need alot of prayers right now. Her central line has caused an infection and she is running a high fever, but with antibiotics they said it will be ok. Since she started receiving jello and sprite, things were looking good, but now she is having alot of abdominal pain. They are doing a CT scan to see what is going on. But like the doctor said, Cassie will have her good days and her bad days and today was a bad day.

In Pa they are looking at alot of law changes for young drivers, especially with cell phone use and having other teens in the vehicle with them.

Just thought I would let everyone know that Cassie has taken a turn for the worse. Her left lung has collapsed again and her right lung had 600cc of fluid on it, and she has a severe infection in her stomach. It is unreal how one day she is doing therapy and happy and the next day she has these problems arise.

I just hope the guy who did this is very pleased with himself. He has taken a valuable, precious life and totally turned it upside down!!

He has not only turned her life upside down but her family and friends and all of the healthcare workers who come in contact with Cassie, also. It is the ripple effect. Drunk drivers only see the immediate, not the long term effect of what they have done. Most are repeat offenders and look at life as though they are the ones being picked on or targeted, they rarel take the blame for their actions or see the damage that they have caused, the booze clouds their reasoning. More prayers for Cassie and her family.

I just read this and it brought tears to my eyes and I just said a prayer for her and her family to give them the strength to get through whatever lays ahead for them. Many heartfelt prayers and well wishes are sent their way.

Cassies family will have to very strong for her. Does she have siblings? This is sad when a young life is affected like this. Hope she gets onto a good road to recovery soon and stays there. She and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.
