Myspace - maybe off topic

I've been setting up a myspace account. I know it's all the rage, but it seemed difficult to navigate. But I finally broke down. Does anyone know about all those "friend requests"? I've been getting a few, and I suspect they are 'bots or else some version of SPAM. A lot are from very young women, and when you click the profile it says some thing about "adult content", and "download and instal the viewer" (which I am not going to do. Thanks.

Download it,go ahead, you know you wanna peek! Shocked Boom!!! Now you have been infested. It is a good site for meets and greets, but you have to be careful of virus and spyware on that place. The pub is off topic so no worries there buddy. When you gonna cough up some caselaw for me to chew on! I gotta find my own right now. I get a lot of those too. They are all spam. I don't add anyone I don't know. You can make your profile private and I don't think you will get those kinds of requests.

Wow...I've never seen a bar or popup window asking me to download something on myspace...I do get the occasional message that ends up being some kind of spam, though. The privacy features myspace has are nice, like only allowing friends to view your page, blog, pics, send messages, etc...

You can adjust the settings to where you won't get any friends request from people you do not know. Myspace can be a great way to keep in contact with friends. You can also keep your profile private, meaning only the friends you have approved can view the site.

Just don't add anybody you don't know, and you'll be fine. And you can't get any viruses from the site myspace specifically, it's the sites you get transfered to by clicking on something unknown, and then downloading unfamiliar material.

sswet, that's what I intend to do in San Francisco, except a lot of my long lost friends are scattered all over the world.
Sassnlucy, I knew something was wrong when all the invites were from very pretty young women. Sort of a let down to know it was all fake though LOL.

Awww Law, sorry for the let down. It happens. But you can always meet pretty young women from your debtcc forum! haha. Like someone said earlier, you can change your settings to block those requests so you don't have to worry about the let down any further. Have fun!

LOL Thanks k_i_m2003. And if that's you're photo, you're a very pretty young woman. Thanks for the info, but if I set to completely private, or "friends only", etc., how can I get messages and/or invites from friends I have lost track of for about 10 years? I am looking for two in particular. Both from the Bay area and traveled all over the country, and I hear one might now be in Alameda (in the East Bay area, near Oakland).

Yes that is me and thanks, how sweet of you. .......you can change your profile to private and there is a setting where you can still receive messages or comments from people but you can choose to accept them or not before they post (not really for messages but comments on your page). I would recommend in your case to just leave it how it is, if it is someone you don't know, don't accept it, unless its me of course. lol jk. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions i'll try my best to help, if not I'm sure someone else will know the answer!

I think there is a privacy setting that requires users to know your name or email addy before sending you something, too.

Thank you k_i_m2003 and Morningstar for the information. When I get it all sorted out in what little free time I have, I'll post my myspace address here. I can use all the friends I can get lol. Don't worry k_i_m2003, you'd be one of the first I would accept as a friend LOL.
