Have you all heard the big news that has been on today about Imus making comments on a womans basketball team? Any comments on what you think?

I did hear about that. What possessed him to say it? The comments were pretty vulgar, I thought.

Who knows? I listened to him every morning. Seems like he has got into a mess this time.

Yeah, I think he'll have a hard time getting out of this one.

I guess we're on the oppossite side of the fence on this.... I said something on another board I belong to, it ended up being a huge long rant...but whatever...the gist of it is this...
If it were Wendy Williams saying something about a predominantly white team, it wouldnot be in the news.
I really don't care to hear about any of this stuff at all. Why is it always such a big deal...
Does anyone remember the first amendment?
(please, no hate mail...i could honestly care less about any of this sort of thing...i'm not racist toward any race, I'm a jew, people say plenty of things all the time that are derogatory toward jewish people...I'm just saying that this sort of thing shouldn't be all over the news...)
how bout that larry birkhead?

Well according to CNN dot com, he has been released from MSNBC. He opened his mouth when he should have kept it shut.

I think it was actually Jesse Jackson who called NYC Hymietown, but I could be wrong...

I wasn't sure who actually said it, but I know it was either Jackson or Sharpton.
MSNBC has dropped the show...and just before the Radiothon fundraiser.

You're right Moondanzer. Also, he'd lost a lot of sponsors and secondly, I heard that CBS is in the middle of some merger and didn't need this hanging over its head. Really the same happened with Howard Stern, and he moved to satellite radio.

I have never heard Imus before; I do believe his comments were vulgar, overboard and he shouldn't have said them.
But I also look back to my own experiences, and dealing with people in general. How many times have we said something, and realized the second we said it- that we shouldn't have???
It is human nature to give someone a second chance. Criminals, debtors, politicians ... are always given a second chance in life, even third, fourth and fifth chances. So I don't see why we make such a big deal over one little incident. I don't think Imus has shown a repeated history of making comments like this... why is he being treated worse than a murderer?
Where is his second chance? I guess when race is involved, we need to be politically correct, and there is no second chances.
If that is the case, we should correct the first amendment to say "We have free speech ... unless, of course, someone is offended by your speech. In that case, free speech doesn't exist."
At any given point, someone will always be offended with anything that is ever said. "You can please some people all the time, all people some of the time; but you can never please all people all the time." Maybe as a nation, we should stop speaking to each other, out of fear that someone may get offended.
