Personally, I think Comcast is good. Any problem I've had with my service they have gone out of their way to fix it.

Comcast is very expensive in our area. I miss Time Warner with their reasonable rates. I called to cancel our HBO, Showtime and Max channels to just get HBO. the rep told me that to just have HBO I would pay 35 dollars a month. My HBO/SHO/MAX package we got from TWC is just 24.99 a month. fortunately they are honoring the TWC contact we had but they jacked up our internet by 30 dollars more a month. I would say our entire cable bill went up about 60 extra dollars when they came to town.

It must be the area . . . Where I live Comcast is very comparable with the other cable tv/internet/phone providers.

I like Comcast because they are incompetent...

I guess my neighbor must have been getting cable installed or something, and someone from Comcast was going around my apt bldg asking "if I wanted to try Comcast free for 6 months" and after 6 mos if I didn't want it then I could cancel without charges.

I told the guy I guarantee I would cancel after 6 months, and he didn't care - said I could still have it. So I let them come in and hook it all up. After the 6 months were up, I cancelled.

WELL, when they came to disconnect it, I heard the guy outside my back door screwing around with the box. Then he knocked on my door and said "are you sure you don't want to keep it?" I said nope, disconnect it. He said "Well, we don't have the keys to get into the box so I can't disconnect it." And then he left.

That was 4 years ago. To this day I still have cable because they don't know where the keys are to disconnect it. Wouldn't you think they would just replace the darn lock?

I would be careful with that DC, a few years back they charged several people where I used to live for "stealing cable". Most of the people moved into where the cable just hadn't been turned off properly and some were actualy outright stealing it.

I don't remeber the result of it because I had moved. I just know it's something you need to be careful with.

FYI is right. In the 1980s cable companies were actually trying to get certified as "utilities", and exercise right of ways, etc. (LOL, reminds me of the "free cable" episode of Seinfeld) I haven't had cable for a while. I have satellite, and just take my reciever from place to place, where I always have several hundred channels, and still nothing to watch. Mine also includes XM satellite radio.

That had crossed my mind, but here is my logic:

I did not physically go out there splice any cables; I never once tampered with any of their equipment. Comcast knew that I told them to disconnect it -- Comcast lost their own keys and couldn't. At the time, they could have used wire-cutters and cut my wire if they wanted to, but they never did.

To me, the ball is in their court for burden of proof. If they ever knock on my door, I will just unplug it from the back of my tv and play dumb -- "What cable? I haven't had that plugged in since I cancelled my service 4 years ago."

I can see your point DebtCruncher. You took the trouble of notifying them.

I will give comcast credit for their collection tactics. I like the subtle way they let you know your payment is past due. First they suspend your On Demand (ever the free stuff), then they suspend your e-mail (but leave the INTERNET service connected), then disconnect your TV , all with out notice, things just simply stop working over time.

They were incompetent, but I kinda miss Adelphia Cable. I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on Comcast if they were on fire.
