I'm mad and I need to vent...

I am so frustrated! I got the renewal for my car insurance in the mail today...My car is one year old, I bought it last July, so this is 3rd renewal on insurance...It started at $98 month. Then it went down to $79 a month. I was so excited! Now it's up to $138 a month!!! What's up with that!? I have had no tickets, no accidents, no comp claims..My driving record is perfect, and I have a bunch of discounts. I drive a 2005 PT Cruiser..I have every safety device you can have, anti-lock brakes, dual airbags, and an alarm. Can anyone think of a logical reason why my insurance would go up THAT much? Obviously, I'm about to start shopping around.

Yes, you need to shop for other insurance company and review their rates. OK, I know the rates are floating but does that rise so much over a short period of time? I will search for the rates over here. What the % in your state?

Also, alot of insurance companies run a credit report when renewal time comes and bases you payment on your credit. I was told by our auto insurance that our payment is based on our credit. The credit report is a tool to tell them whether you will be consistent with your payments and whether you will be a high risk for wrecking your vehicle to get money. I know, it sounds stupid.

I know, they told us that, too..The thing is, my credit is actually pretty decent..And it's actually gotten a little bit better over the past year. It's Progressive Insurance, I've had them for years. I just checked one other company, and they quoted me $200 less than Progressive for a 6-month period. I'm going to keep checking.

We have Direct Auto and they are actually the cheapest we could find. We tried several others and they wanted twice as much as Direct did.

Are they a local company, or are they a big online place like Progressive or Geico?

Direct Auto has a website that you can go into and get information and a quote. They have local offices in our area. I will check the website and let you know what areas they cover. What state do you live in? I know you have told me in chat, but I cant remember. I think I am losing my mind from the kids being home for the summer.

Hey check with American Family - see if they cover your area. We have been with them forever and they have the lowest rate around here. Also I was in 2 accidents within a month a couple of years ago, got hit by 2 uninsured drivers and had about $8000 in claims and they never raised our rates. I would hate to think about changing, they've been so good to us.

Hey--I work for American Family..they are soon going into credit ratings as well. Depends on what state you are in & when that will happen. If you have proof of current ins for the past year you s/b able to be put into the preferred rate w/ AmFam which is good. Did you call your ins co to see why it went up so high...it also could just be a rate increase for your particular state.

thank you Igall!!!! I am going to call them!! My rates went up because they said A) a general increase
B)People are flipping their cruisers...They drive like an SUV..they sit as high as a small suv and are as tall as a small suv, and they don't have a warning sticker on the visor. I've never flipped mine, so why should it matter? And C) they don't have a copy of our health insurance on file. Even sending the health insurance proof in doesn't lower it enough to be reasonable.

I think I found Hastings Mutual though Progressive.com. You can call them and get a quote. I assume they are in Hastings, which I had always heard of but didn't realize until the other day that it is due east of kzoo!lol

finsfan, I have my insurance and my husband's thru ProgressiveDirect and it's $137.00 a month for both of our vehicles. I have a 2002 Envoy and he has a 97 Ford F-150 4x4. They were pretty good prices. You can go to their site, and get a quote with no obligation. It's instant. The quote will be saved online and they do not harass you. Also, if you do your insurance online like that, you do not have to pay a insurance dealer's fee. That saves a little bit. I instantly printed out my temporary insurance cards for my vehicle and my policy to put in my car. The permament cards came within a week. You can pay online or mail them your payment. I have really enjoyed my experience with them. I've had to call them before also regarding some issues, and customer

You guys are great!!! Progressive is the company that raised my rates, tho..so I won't be dealing with them!! I'm on my own..My husband drives a 2001 Jeep that he owns free and clear now, so he dropped full coverage and pays next to nothing. Our home insurance is through a local agency..But I didn't like their car quote. I'm definitely not against switching my home insurance or my husband's plpd too.
