We got our bill from Verizon Wireless yesterday and it stated on the statement that Verizon Wireless has stopped charging the 3% FET tax and you may be able to claim a refund of the tax on the 2006 federal tax returns for FET paid after February 2003. It also stated that the IRS website will have more information about this by July 31, 2006.

I just saw that on my bill as well...

but I think the tax is going to be reimbursed for EVERYONE that was billed for it either through a long-distance carrier or wireless carrier, not just VW...so I'm going to post a link to this thread in a new topic now...

thanks for letting us all know! Smile

So far, I have only seen it on the cell phone bill, but I am waiting for the phone bill to see if it says anything.

don't get too excited. While the FET on Cellular and long distance communications was deemeded by a court to be improper, there is a new wave of taxes and fees assessed by the FCC that will soon take its place.

Of historical note, the FET was actually established in the late 1800's as a means to finance the Spanish-American war.

I think the spanish american war is over...maybe they should pay everyone back retroactive to the date it ended and was paid for?

Just to be fair, of course...
