I was wondering if any of you get cards, gifts etc. before Christmas that say do not open until Christmas? And if you do, do you wait?
The reason why I ask is because on Sunday at my daughters birthday party hubby grandma put a card on my Christmas tree with both our names on it and it says all over the envelope do not open till dec. 25th Now this is driving me nuts Number one, because I know there is money in it. SHe did that last year also. But now hubby got a card in the mail from her and it says the same thing. And of course yep you know there is money in that also. Plus my daughter is keeping an eye on the first envelope to make sure we don't open it. The reason why it is driving me nuts is because last year she gave us a check for $1,000 I just about died and cried at the same time. And I know the card hubby got in the mail today is from a CD that his grandparents opened up when he was very little, I am thinking she finally cashed that in so thats why it is addressed to only him. So right now I know there is quite a bit of money sitting on my tree and I can't even get it until Christmas lol. What would you do lol. I have bills that I need to pay but am running a little short in the checkbook (thanks to daughters party) But thank god the people I owe are willing to wait a week. It's still driving me nuts though, hubby looks like he could care less. I love looking at my tree so I am thinking I am going to pack those cards away so I don't see them until we get to the cabin.

I have to admit , I do open them. I got a card with a gift inside from a friend. We said that when he got his gift from me, we would open them together on the phone. He lives in CA and i am in NY.I couldnt wait. I opened it the day it came. When he called to say his arrived, I ripped a piece of paper so he thought I was opening mine and then I pretended I was surprised. I think us woman are more anxious then the men. I say open !!!!!
Have a great holiday , Puddle

Yeah, I'd open it. But i'm bad with surprises . . . . I always end up wanting people to open the presents I get them right away . . . .

I am with the others, I would have to open it. I am dying becuase I know what I got for Christmas from hubby and he will not let me see it until Christmas. I picked it out...he had it wrapped, never to be seen again! UGH! I am usually for doing what is asked but I certainly can understand the pull to open it. I hope you were not wanting us to talk you out of it

Yeah- I would have opened it too, and put it back
Years ago, we lived in North Carolina,I was young-in my late 20's and it was the first Christmas without my family.
My parents and family sent gifts and envelopes about a week ahead of time-not to open 'till Christmas. So I waited for everyone to go to sleep and opened them-and then put them back together. Then I acted really surprized when they called Christmas
I want her to be my granny too KAren

Well she is thinking about going into a nursing home because she is starting to have a hard time taking care of herself and she is so independant that she WILL NOT live with a family member. So I am thining that she is giving everyone money this year so the nursing home doesn't know she has that much. She's not doing very well, health wise, but heck I think she is doing great for being 87. She even gave my daughter and extra $50 for her 18th birthday for not doing drugs, smoking or drinking.

I have to say I am a advocate of waiting. Christmas morning is only once a year!!!! My 2 adult children are not married yet so they come and spend the night with me on Christmas Eve..and we still have our special morning...I can't trade that...

Two voices of reason.
Puddle, My Grandmother went to a nursing home and she loves it. She knew she has alzheimers (sp) and she decided she wanted to go before she was too bad so she would know if she would get proper treatment. It made her feel safer knowing someone would be there if she needed them no matter what hour it was and they did all kinds of cool things whith the residents. Hers went from assisted living to almost like a hospital setting. All of use wanted her but she said we all have our own lives and need to live them..she lived hers and we had to respect that. But, she did the same thing. Signed a bunch of assets away before she went in.

lmao Cannr that was funny. Oh you bet those will be the first things that get opened on Christmas. Hubby put them away (and he's very good at hiding stuff) so I know I won't find them. Heck for all I know he probably has them in his truck. The kids are gonna have to wait to open theirs until I find out what is in those cards lmao. Not like they are gonna have much to open anyway we are giving my son hubby's snowmobile (that he thinks he's buying from us) and my daughter is getting a car (that she thinks she is buying from us) So we didn't get them much else lol. But they will still be excited. I guess I am still a kid at Christmas, cause I can't wait till they open the boxes that have the regestration papers in their name.
Roxy, thanks for that info it makes me feel better about her decision. I have heard so many bad stories about nursing homes, it's nice to hear a good one.
