Is it better to work with a company in your state or out of your state when it comes to debt consolidation companies?

The main thing is the trust and the goodwill of the company in the market. It doesn't matter if they are working in your state or not. I will like to work with a company that has a good customer feedback. I will be sending my hard earned money to them. So, I need to have the faith on them. BTW, are you shopping for some consolidation companies? You can take the free quote offered by this website and compare your options.

I am shopping for companies. I signed up to get info offered by this website and only one company has contacted me, Coleman Law Offices, PA - They asking $319/month for 34 months on approx $11,000 in credit card debt. They can lower one interest rate from 24% to 7% (which is great) and the other from 26% to 15.9% - I would like to have a few others to compare to, but really don't know the options or the best way to go about trying to find a company, without them calling me 200 times a day asking about my status.

Coleman asked when I could start, I told them i wasn't sure, probably in August, the first week....but wanted the signed contract yesterday - i feel very pushed and I'm starting to get upset about it and feel like I should just keep programming 800 numbers into my cell phone as "don't answer" and putting their ringer as 'silent'....really depressing - I could use any help or advice!!! Sad

It's going to be a lot of money to just trust someone with, I need to know they're not going to 'screw' me over, and I've read so many horror stories on here, it's hard to believe now!

Roark, also check with the BBB online about the consolidation companies you're considering..They can let you know about any customer complaints.

I did check with the BBB, but not sure what is good and what is bad. I don't know how to understand that at all - I know, pathetic, a woman fresh (3 years) out of college with Management, Marketing, and Finance degrees doesn't understand what the BBB is trying to tell me....

The Bureau processed a total of 25 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total 25 complaints in the last 36 months, 7 of those were closed in the last 12 months.

I wouldn't worry about advertising issues..Some people expect too much. Service and customer service issues can easily be that some people got angry because they were on hold too long or thought the rep had a snotty tone of voice...You have to take some of the complaints with a grain of salt, I see that most of the complaints were resolved.
I would say that 25 complaints isn't too bad at all..No one's perfect, and my idea of good may be totally different from yours. Keep shopping, the important thing is that you feel comfortable with what they offer you.

How about everyone else - is there someone they have used and wouldn't have changed their minds for the world?? I'm open for ideas at this point, I'm not going to be able to budget it in for another 4 weeks anyway....

Roark, compare your options with the local consolidation companies in your area. However, looking at the total amount of debt and the timeframe, you may not get a lower quote. You might have to increase your monthly payments if there is a better deal. Keep shopping for the companies until you have the complete trust. BTW, if I had been in your shoes, I would have worked with Coleman law office since there is no severe negative feedback about them in the BBB. Most of them are shown as resolved.
