|
|
I "closed" my checking account yesterday and was assured that nothing could come through it at all.
So far today, 2 out of the 4 have withdrawn their fees putting it -169 in the hole.
2 more will come through today.
I called my bank and they said that you can't actually close an account, you just take it to a 0 balance and after 2 weeks of non use it will close itself. Is this bs or what? They said I can come in and stop payment from these companies for $34 each with a $ range from 0-999.
Will that stop these pdl's from taking anything?
And how do they close accounts if there is fraud on them?
I'm confused

This is not good news, I plan on closing my account on the 31st and opening a new one. I thought it was closed right away, I'm going to have the same problem

Actually I have heard of this. You close out your account but they don't actually close -CLOSE it--giving it a little time for any and all things to come through. I think on the accounts where theres been fraud--if you prove it to the bank and may even have to have a police report, where you filed a fraud report, then they will shut it down instantly. this is my understanding. anyone want to jump in here and add anything? shirley

awknox2003---it may also depend on where you bank at. You might want to first check with them to see what their policies are.

Be careful make sure you check with them because sometimes they say it is 2 weeks but I have been told it is 30 Days. If you stop payment on the ACH's make sure you ask them if the company puts thru an amount different from the one they usually take out (example you fee is 90.00 but they decide to try and take 180.00) does the stop payment still apply some banks will stop payment and it does not matter how much comes thru for that company and they will reject it and other banks will only put a stop payment on that specific amount. My sister had a bank account the same thing happened she was advised that it was closed but then all of a sudden the payday loan companies started ACH on the account again and it reopened the account. She was told that no activity needed to happen for 30 days. So what eneded up happening is because it happened before the 30 day period it reopened the account she closed it again and it reopened and 800.00 some dollars later because she was so much in the negative it finally closed on its own. So, you have to be very specific with the bank what you want. I ended up freezing my account so nothing but credits could come thru till I got my pdl's paid off and under control. Who has fraud on them the pdl companies is that what you are saying? Once you give these companies your bank account number it seams it does not matter they keep on with the AcH's. I would also think about opening another bank account at another bank in before anything for some reason hits telecheck.

I have govt check direct deposited and when I close it out on the 1st and re-open Im not sure what will happen because there will not be any more deposits made. Maybe you should let the PDLs know after you close it the same day that you have closed the acct. and if they deposit them they will not go through, and you are going to have your counselor talk to them or if available free legal aid hotlines can make a difference

I am the original poster
I worked it out. I just had to talk the right people at the bank(as in not a teller, even head teller)
Talk to someone higher- She is sending back everything as closed account and I owe nothing at all to the bank since I technically closed it yesterday
also, each bank is different
At my last bank, I reported possible fraud might happen based on a call I recieved where someone knew my checking info and they closed it immediately
good luck all
