In a debt consolidation, you will have to pay the principal amount. The interest rate will be brought down and most late payment fees can be waived off. A lower payment plan will be designed after the consultant does analysis on your income and expenses. The plan will be set for a fixed period and you need to make the payments regularly to your counselor. He will post your payments to the creditors in the plan and your credit report will be updated after all are paid.
