Sandy, you said this:
Quote:
"Lastly, for those of you that don't owe the agency any money on any "Valid Debt", why are you getting so upset about a phone call or two? Again, the agency has the right to call everyday. Until it is communicated to the agency that the they are calling the wrong number, the calls will continue. "We are not mind readers". Simply call the agency and let them know the phone number they are calling and they will remove your number, so you will not receive anymore phone calls. Don't call them back and yell at the representatives and refuse to give them the phone number they are calling you at or leaving messages on or try to block your phone number, otherwise they cannot remove your phone number from their system. Simply, give them the phone number. The person that owes the "Valid Debt" may have had your phone number at one time or they may know you or have known you and gave your phone number to the original creditor as a contact number to reach them at. Why get so upset about your phone number being called? If you know the "debtor" why get upset at the agency for calling, you should be upset with the "debtor" for giving out your phone number!!!! Would you get this upset if someone delivered a pizza to your house and it was the wrong house?????? It's funny how consumers have given collection agencies a bad rap, when in fact consumers are the ones with bad behaviors. If you owe money and your debt is turned over to a collection agency, expect the agency to demand the money be paid back. They are not Customer Service, if you want that type of service, then pay your bills on time and stay out of collections (regardless of the reason)."
I am running a business here, with 5 phone lines, and I have no idea which number is being called. So I can't call them and ask them to stop calling my number.

Also, every one of our numbers is on the Do-Not-Call list.

We owe no debt.

Your reply above is unacceptable.

In a perfect world, we'd all love to be able to pay all of our bills on time and in full.. but in the real world, life happens. Jobs get lost, people get sick and cicumstances change. My family of 5 has had an income decrease of almost 2/3.

Just paying our living expenses is tight- forget about the credit cards! We have even lost the house we worked so hard to get. I'm sorry "sandy" but you're wrong. And if you, in the credit/collections industry would get a clue about how hard it is out there right now and start helping people, you may start to see money being repaid. But when you're rude, inconsiderate and unwilling to help, it doesn't make the consumer all that interested in paying the money back- our credit is already trashed, so I don't really have anymore to loose by not paying you- you going to sue? Ok... then we'll file BK and you won't get anything.. Your choice.

I too have been getting calls from this number - they really do start talking before the answering machine is done announcing. It turns out they are looking for my daughter. I know she has a lot of outstanding debt, she's been trying to pay them all off. The kicker is - she doesn't live here - she hasn't for over 2 years. I tried to tell them that and told them if they told me what they wanted I would let my daughter know. The woman was VERY VERY rude, and wouldn't even giveme the name of the company she's working for. As a result, I will not forward any messages to my daughter and I will send them a C & D notification. I am not responsible for my daughters debts and do not want to field calls from collection agencies.

If they don't bother to call properly it is sometimes better NOT to call them back. Any successful communication can be interpreted as a revival of a debt. If the statue of limitations has expired on a debt it is sometimes better to wait for something in writing. At that point you can demand verification of the debt in writing. Most companies who have bought expired debt will back off at that point. Also. check your credit reports often. Some of these firms will falsify the date of last activity on your previous accounts to collect illegally after the statue of limitations has expired. Legitimate debt collectors have no need to be rude--like torture, rudeness tends to be counterproductive.

the part about rvival of debt is wrong i'm afaraid.in some states even a payment won' re-start the SOL clock.i don't like bottomfeeders at all,but some legit collectors will work with the consumer for the creditors and the consumers benefit.i do agree about the get it in writing.all legit collectors will send a dunning letter.

They buy your old uncolectable debts for $1. Don`t pay them a dime or the 7 years statute starts all over again. These scum are bottom feeders. Ignore them an don`t call them back. The post in blue, are these scum.

The good news is, they violated a ton of laws. From now on, have a recorder, and when you find out who they are, let them know (certified receipt) that they are in violation of a bunch of laws, (but site the laws) and each time they call, if you answer, let them know they are being recorded... You may turn this around, and they can owe you $1000 per violation.. Bastards..

These people are rude. I am not who they are trying to reach and they are calling at least five times a day. I told them that I am not who they are looking for and they still won't remove me from the list. They wouldn't identify themselves and were all around rude. I filed a complaint with the FTC and then blocked the 800 number, but they started to call from an unavailable number. I don't know what else to do.

Suddenly I am receiving calls from 1 800 670 9944. The first message was from Sandy who said she has been trying to reach me for quite some time. She left her extension as 111, when I returned the call the answering system advised there was no such extension or anyone named Sandy. I have several late payments on credit accounts, however to the best of my knowledge none have been turned over to collection. How do you communicate with these people & what reputable firms are using them?

I had been getting calls like this for almost 6 years now. They keep asking for a Lisa L. and mentioning something about collecting on a past debt. They've not been rude on the messages they've left (although they seem to start leaving a message before my answering message is finished playing). I've called back numerous times saying that there is no Lisa L. at this number and hasn't been since I've had this phone number (which is now almost 6 years). I've also asked that they remove my number from their list. They say they will. Then the calls stopped for awhile. Then within the last week, I've gotten 3 more calls like this asking for Lisa L. I just called them back, repeated that I am not Lisa L., that Lisa L. hasn't had this number for years, that they need to remove my number from their list, and that if I get one more call like this, I will report them. The person I left this message with is named Anna at extension 229, and I did get her voicemail box when I called and left this message. Does anyone know who I can take this up with to stop these annoying phone calls that aren't for me?

I am having problems with these people for the last year or so. They seem to be trying to collect on Macy's accounts I've had paid off since 2005 or 2006. I've provided proof to the credit bureau's (bank statements, letters of accounts closing). For some reason these accounts are still showing up on my credit report as unpaid and open when I've clearly paid them off, so this stupid OMNI company continues to call.

I've gotten the call from the woman who uses the recorded message to leave a voice mail (Sandy... yadda yadda). Now some fella named John is calling and I can't get them to stop. Pretty annoying.

They call and hang up all the time without giving me a clue. The person they are trying to reach is in jail but they won't give me a chance to tell them that. I reported them to the FTC. They have terrible business practices. The more people the better chance we have of them getting a hefty fine. They have to say who they are when they call. Hanging up is not an option. Report them I do it on the internet. It is easy.
