I am so thankful for this thread. I'm not in any credit trouble, thank the Lord, but the previous resident in the house I now own has apparently skipped out on a lot of debt. All the collection agencies have done reverse address searches and have my name and phone number. They all assume that I'm the same guy, but under an assumed name.
None have been so hateful and beligerent as Omni (800-670-9944). I just got off the phone with "Holly" at extension 266. She says she's a supervisor, probably so. My first call to Omni ended when they asked to put me on hold and hung up on me. The second ended when Holly offered to let me speak to the original collection agent who called my home, but instead she hung up on me too. The third call I was able to speak to Holly again. It helped that I had the information above, i.e., the name, address, company president's name, etc.
She swore to me that they'd taken my number out of their database, but I doubt that. I told her that the next time they called, I'd take legal action. She asked me if I was threatening her, to which I replied, no, but I gave her the name of the law that they would be breaking if they persisted in calling me...
Good luck if you actually owe money to these sharks. It was bad enough for me, and I don't owe them a dime.
