My grandmother recently passed away in Texas and had a few small credit card bills. She has no spouse and no estate. She was living in a nursing home and was in the process of trying to get medicaid. What responsibility do we, the family, have for this debt? What can the credit card companies do?

I went through something similar in 1999. As far as I know, they can do nothing. They might try to tell you different things, but for the most part, you are not responsible for another person's debts (unless you're a co-signer). Let me know if this helps.
