I have a judgement filed against me for 4 x the original amount of the credit card debt. What happened was that my income was cut in 1/2 after the birth of my son over 6 years ago and whehn I got behind, the cc agency refused to accept any of my offers of repayment. They wanted me to promise them money I didn't have and then harrassed me for years over it. Do I get an attorney ?

Welcome to the Forums Micah You said you have a judgement, have you been to court already? If this debt hasn't been validated, how do you know what the real amount would be? Check out your states SOL period to see if it's out of the sol. What was the date of last payment? Of course, if this has already gone to court and they got a judgment, don't know if this matters..KAren

Judgments can still be settled but you would want someone with credibility to assist you to do that. My recommendation would be to get in touch with a debt consolidation company. In most cases they can eliminate all of the interest that has accrued, reduce the principal balance and set up a payment arrangement. Since you've registered as a member of the forum, you will be contacted by a debt counselor who will be able to give you some guidance and perhaps some recommendations for reputable debt consolidation companies in your area.
