i looked at my credit report and it said one account was sold to another if i payed off the other business whom that account was sold to should it be payed for even if it still shows up on credit report

If its paid off, I believe that would be the case. It sounds like this is something you need to dispute on your credit report. Just write a letter to the credit reporting company telling them this was paid off. They have 30 days to verify with the creditor. If the creditor doesn't respond, they are required to remove it from your report.

The original company that sold off the debt to some other company will be reporting in your CR with a zero balance. Your payments in full will be posted under the new company that purchased your account.
