They can send the item to a collection agency and they can report you to the credit bureaus.
Most pdl's report to teletrack. With a negative report there it will stop you from taking out more pdl's, renting furniture, and other sub prime, high interest high risk loans.
As long as you've never bounced a check and don't have a telecheck report, you should be able to write a check at a store. PDL's shouldn't affect that, but in some states it may be possible. What state are you in?

I thought they had to validate the debt first? If they dont then they cant report it to the credit bureaus? Maybe I'm wrong? I thought that was for both storefront and internet?

I dont think they have to validate the debt unless you ask them to. Or else how do so many false reports get posted on people credit reports?

I'm thinking the original posted needs to elaborate on what she is asking.
I think they can report whatever they want. You can dispute it with the reporting agency, and if they can't confirm it then it will be removed. I'm not sure what sort of proof they have to show to get the item on the report in the first place, but I doubt it's much.
