How safe is using a credit card? If someone comes to know my credit card number then they can do a lot of online transactions putting me to debt. So how can I can play safe with credit cards.

Like any other personal information, it is your responsibility to prevent any misuse of your credit card. Make sure that you use your credit card in a secure website having a "lock" sign and the SSL certificate. If you are cautious, you won't have to pay for any damages.

I use a prepaid debit card for EVERYTHING. The card that is available at Walgreens & Rite Aid is a prepaid Master Card, and you can even have part of your paycheck direct deposited to it.
Cajun is right - if you get hit by a hacker that takes your prepaid debit card info from the internet, the only thing you lose is the money you have on the card. They do not have access to your bank account info, because it is not connected to any bank account in your name.
