if I default with them (i.e. cancel my check) will they call my work, or are they typically not as harassing as internet payday loan companies. the company is payday america.

I am dealing with the cash store right now (storefront pdl). They are the worst, they call my cell like 10 times a day and my work like 5 times a day, constantly asking to leave messages. I have contacted them and told them I am working with T&C yet they continue to call. I hope that they don't do the same for you but try calling them back and letting them know that you do not want to receive calls at work.

First rule of thumb, don't default. If anything pay the renewal fee and wait another pay period or 30 days, how ever long your loan is. But if you plan to default on it, work with them. Most storefront PDLs will work with you and get payment arrangements set up. As far as which number they will call, it's all up to what you asked them to call. If you ask them at the time of taking out the loan which number to call, they'll call that one (if they were a good company). But if you don't specify, that gives them the green light to call all of the numbers you provided to them.

BE careful canceling that check...in some states it can make you criminially responsible for canceling the check on a storefront! Check your state laws at paydayloaninfo.org

In Michigan, no criminal prosecutation can be taken -- that is, they can't sue you.

If you knowingly put a stop payment on a check that you've written that is committing check fraud.
Did you pay anything toward your loan? If you borrowed the money, you are legally required to pay it back + legal interest.
