What state are you in? And are these storefronts, internet payday loans or both? There is hope just give some more specific details and we can help you through the process. All is not lost. And you won't be going to jail. Did any of them tell you that?

Do you have any other debts or are this just payday loans only? See these tips on repairing your bad credit. Do you have a job? You can fix a lower repayment plan through one dmp program and get lower interest rates. Speak with a debt counselor and see how you can clear out your debts.

I am in the same mess too with internet payday loans. The bank closed my checking account because it had gotten so bad with NSF charges.

My payday loans were done on the internet. I have just found out that payday loans are illegal in my state of North Carolina. By it being illegal does that mean the worse for me since i am the one who accepted the loan?

It is worse for the companies. They should never have given you any loans, they are operating illegally. They will tell you otherwise, but they are full of sh**. You need to close and open a new account, then you need to file complaints with your Attorney General's office against each company. You need to use the template letter on Polly's blog (use it as a guide) and you are only obligated to pay back the principal in your case. If you have been paying on them repeatedly by only paying the roll over fees you may have already paid back the principal and demand they mark you paid in full.

Some states where they are illegal and correct me if I am wrong Kyside, like WV, will say you aren't obligated to pay them back anything, they are unlicensed and operating illegally by providing loans in a state where they are illegal. Be prepared to stand your ground and don't fall for the threats that you are being charged with fraud or getting arrested, ALL LIES.

Also, forgot, which companies are you dealing with. That way others can tell you what to expect from their experiences.

That is true. Some state's AG's will say that since the loan itself is illegal, the contract is void and unenforcable. You would legally not have to pay back a cent. These companies are taking that risk when they lend to consumers in states where they are illegal.
