|
For any of you who use paypal I would like to share this. I had an unauthorzed charge to my account from a legitimate business. I found this out when my debit ws declined while paying for groceries. I was left high and dry because I was relying on the money being there. I was billed for an item that was returned. Paypal WILL NOT REVERSE an unauthorized charge without the OK of the company that did it. So if a crook steals your money you need to get permission from the crook to reverse it, unless it is identity theft or you can prove fraud. Do not leave your money sitting in paypal. Take it out and deposit it in the bank. Do not transfer it or they will reverse the transfer if a charge comes before it is completed.

I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with paypal!!!!! You can't automatically take money from a paypal account unless it is authorized. If it wasn't authorized, it would mean that your paypal account has been compromised...right?

YEah, as soon as money goes in, I have them cut a check. I don't trust anyone with my new checking account info.

I have a debit card for my paypal account too.
So the paypal website says:
| Quote: | 100% protection against unauthorized payments sent from your account.
As a PayPal user, you’re protected from any payment that you did not authorize.
As a fraud-prevention measure, we will send an email confirmation for every online payment that you make with PayPal.
If you receive email confirmation of a transaction that you did not approve, contact us and we will work with you to quickly resolve the issue. You will not be responsible for the charges. |
I would call them again and remind them of their 100% Protection

You think I (he) am making this up. If someone has credited to your account once they can go back and charge your account. I had to got to the merchant to reverse it. Paypal is bound by the rules of Mastercard whose debit card I have. I have been with paypal for years and this was the first time this happened. I spoke with a supervisor who said, "unless you can prove fraud, they cannot and will not reverse a charge without the permission of the merchant." Do not leave a lot of money in there because if someone pirates your account, which happens more than you think, it is going to be a while before you can recover your losses. There fraud protection is a lot of Bull-oney.

I don't think you're making it up! It sucks that they don't back up their promises . . . . I would keep at them, maybe you will get a nice person on the phone that is actually willing to help.
Have you contacted the merchant yet to see why he won't refund the payment? Is it an ebay transaction?

Frogpatch - I apologize, I couldn't tell if you were a he or a she...
I didn't think you were making it up either. I was just stating that to date, I've had pleasant experiences with paypal for various transactions. Sorry that your recent experience has been unpleasant.

Definitely keep fighting it, frogpatch!! That is completely wrong and I would think that if they are not going to back up their 100% guarantee that their could be legal ramifications for them. That doesn't make up for the fact that they left you high and dry but keep fighting! I am sorry that happened to you. I would be completely livid.

The merchant reversed the charge but it take several days to post. The wonderful people at Super Target held our groceries until we came back the next day with the cash.

When my wife called the number on the back of the card from the store she was routed to India. They sound just like the route 66 people. About as helpful too.

I've noticed that too. They have their customer service outsourced to India . . . . They follow a script and can offer no real help.
