I have a friend who has check into cash calling her home and work after she verbally told them not to. Is there something she could send or do besides pay them off right now? Also is there any advice on how to handle them, they even came to her house....Come on now this is just ridiculous!

Uhhh, I would file a police report. That is illegal. she should file harassment, maybe even stalking complaints against them.

I do know that here in WI there are some payday loan places that do show up at work or your house if you do not answer your phone or call them back. That is one of the couple of steps they take before they take you to court. Another one is they will keep calling your bank to see if the funds are in there and bam, they are there in like 5 min. and cash your check at your bank in person. I would check the laws in your state along with the contract that was signed to see what collections they can and will do. Your friend needs to contact them to try and make arrangements to pay it off. But don't just ignore them because the next knock at the door could result in your friend being served papers for court.

There were 2 women, I talked to them. They asked if my friend was home, and if they could talk to her. I told them no and they handed me a letter with a paper in it and said to have her call when she "woke up" I told them she was sleep. And in the letter it had a late notice with how much she owed and the check number and all that, shouldn't they not just hand that stuff to people who answer the door? What if I had opened it and wasn't her friend or somthing....
Thanks pps! I'll let her know her options, if you have anything else that would help i'm all ears!

That I would do, let them know that any further contact should be done by mail.
With them handing you that letter, i'm not sure if they can do that or not. Because anybody could have opened that. Did the letter have your friends ss# on it or any of the bank information on it?

Oh and I would probably do what steelers suggests. Go to the police and file a report.

In OH, that is not allowed. I would definately file a police report, and it is nice they handed you a letter, that way you have the culprits names.

I agree with Steelers - file a complaint against them for the coming to the door thing - that's outrageous.

I have never heard of that in my entire experiences with PDL's--and trust me, do I have experiences with PDL's! Not only do I think that is harassment, but since your friend's debt was disclosed to a third party (you), I feel that's a FDCPA violation as well.

They only handed me the letter though, they didnt directly tell me what they wanted to talk to her was about...but handed me a letter...lol...I'll let her know to send a letter directing them to not contact her at HOME Visits, Work, or Home Phone, but only through mail. She's going to pay them but she wants to know if they're violating laws that she should act on, so further people don't get the same thing...By the way I'm in California, so should she still call the cops and file a harrasment report?

I'm in Ohio and when I defaulted on 2 storefront pdl's, (not at the same time) they came to my house. This happened more than once. I was either never home or didn't answer the door. They left a thing on my door saying "sorry I missed you, please give me a call" with the employee's name and phone number. I never knew that was illegal! They were Advance America and National Cash Advance.

I am also in California and I have never heard of that type of behavior. I also had a loan with Advance America which I did default on. I did get many phone calls from them, but I was able to work it out and pay it off in full. My point is that if they did that for everyone who defaulted, they would never be in the office, imho.

I had a PDL with Advance America, and though they weren't easy to deal with, they never came to my door. However, they did threaten to serve me papers at my workplace if it went so far as to be taken to court. It never did, but that's the direction they were headed.
