here is a cool article I read today, theres more articles regarding this subject, let me know if you want to read more articles such as this.
| Quote: | Speaking to collectors on the telephone is a situation most people find to be very uncomfortable, when negotiating settlements on your unsecured debt this is one of the most important aspects. The good thing about dealing with collectors on the telephone is exactly that, for instance it is the wrong time for collectors to call, simply tell them that and hang up, do not wait for them to speak. If they call at work simply tell them they need to stop calling you there and follow this with a cease and desist letter for them to stop calling you at work. If they call you at dinner time, simply say you are having dinner and hang up.
There is no reason to carry on a conversation with a collector over the phone if you do not want to. Hang up or very politely tell the collector you do not want to speak at that particular moment and simply hang up. It is that easy, try that at least five or six different times with the same collector and they will start to tone down their talk. Soften them up, do to them what they would do to you, play with them.
Make sure to keep up with current consumer laws to protect your rights. Always keep a log of your conversations with collectors (that is if you choose to speak to them, because this will show how many times they have called on the debt, at what hours of the day and exactly what they said. If you want also tell them you are taping the conversation for your protection and see how quickly they turn their tough guy act down.
If an agreement is reached over the telephone with these people make sure to get the terms in writing before making any payments. Never take a collector's word that he/she will send a letter out after making a payment over the telephone. Phone payments are fine if a copy of the terms has been faxed or mailed.
Always sound confident on the telephone and never let them scare you, upset you, or intimidate you. Remember good phone composure and lingo will get great settlement results, good luck. |

WHO hung up? The collector or your husband?
I'm a collector and find it hard to believe a collector would be that stupid as to hang up.
There should be no problem if you're willing to pay.
Call the agency back, tell someone you want to pay, make sure they have the right account info, ask them to send you a letter stating that upon receipt of the agreed amount the account is paid in full. Tell them you want the letter faxed to you before you pay.
