So I just got a call back from Amber at AIP, although I'd left a message for Michael to call me back. She wouldn't budge about the UK laws governing the agreement. I specifically asked her if they had a pyday loan license in Oregon and she said yes, then put me on hold and came back and said they are licensed in the UK.

Since they are located in DE, I asked how come they don't follow US law. She claims they are only a payment processing company that does the payments foe the UK company. I told her that oregon law reguires that they have a license to to payday loans in oregon. Again, I asked specifically if they had a license to do payday loans in oregon. She said they are a member of the BBB and I could check them out there.

I said that is not what I was asking. All throughout this conversation she kept putting me on hold and asking someone else for the answers to my questions. Once she even forgot to put me on hold and was acting like I'm some idiot that doesn't understand what she's saying. She kept reiterating that they follow UK law, that I agreed to it, and that they don't need to be licensed in Oregon to do payday loans.

Finally, she said that their controller will be calling me tomorrow to answer my questions. I know they are not licensed in Oregon. I want to be very prepared for this conversation. Is there anything else I should have available to me besides oregon payday laws?

Also, if anyone else has had a similar experience with AIP I'd appreciate their input. . . . .

Ok...call right back and ask to speak with Michael. If she asks for your ss# to pull up your acct, tell her no, that you need to speak with Michael. Just be consistent and don't tell her anything...

I've called for Michael like 8 times . . . All I get is his voicemail. I left a message and she's the one calling me back. One thing she said is that she's the one handling my account, and that I needed to talk to her, which made me think my message was sent to her from Michael . . .

Not really, I'd rather my friends don't know about the payday loans I took out . . . I'm just going to see what their "Controller" has to say tomorrow. Hopefully when confronted with the laws and the fact that they will be fined $2500 for doing payday loans in oregon without a license they will decide that going after me for a few hundred dollars isn't cost effective . . . .

I just can't believe that she kept telling me to look at their BBB report as proof that they are legit!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking would happen, if I get a call at all . . . . Every question I asked her she put me on hold and asked someone else how to answer . . . . They don't train their people very well . . .

Yea, I also spoke with some pretty ignorant ppl there until they barged companies and then they got better. I don't think that I ever spoke with Amber. I spoke with 2 or 3 ppl and then when I called back, the response was they no longer work here, I an handling your acct. I finally got someone with some sense (Michael). But by the way it sounds, he has already learned their skills. Good luck in the a.m., let me know who the "Controller" was ...

Goudah, You have the law on your side. Don't listen to what this company says. They DO have to abide by the laws the consumer lives in. If they are not licensed in your state, that gives you a lot of clout.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for clarifying that, I was pretty sure that they had to go by the laws in the state of the consumer..

Yes, natdust, they do, regardless of what they tell you.
