Posted this statement on another question and it got me to thinking.... Other than for moral reasons, WHY should a person pay a company money for a debt that is not initially theirs? A company BUYS a debt from another company.... it just doesn't seem right that a person should have to pay someone that the money was not initially owed to.

I guess all these companies are doing business. If the original company is unable to recover the debts from the consumer, their is another company to purchase that account and to collect the balance from the debtor including their fees. The actual company sells the debt to another company just because they manage hundreds and thousands of files in a month and they don't want to invest more time on a particular account. Besides, when another company is available to purchase that file, why will the original company be bothered of investing more time on the same file??
