Hi Everyone,
Great forum. I was doing research on debt relief and came up with countless debt settlement companies. Called several of them and all seem to spend as much time with me on the phone as I want. Very convincing sales pitches. They make it seem like the best solution.
Spent little time here and it seems like they lure people into a never ending nightmare. Thank God I found this site.
I called Take Charge America after someone mentioned them here. A counselor told me what my best options are. Really sincere people who want nothing from you but to help you.
I started a business 9 months ago. Still current with my payments but with tough times out there I'm looking at my options in case I hit a wall..

Only a few companies out of the hundreds and thousands of companies that advertise debt settlement have good intentions.....most of them are fraudulent companies that run with the intention of snatching off our hard earned money. Some of these companies advertise as non profit organizations providing free services to the debt burdened people but the truth is these companies charge fees even before providing any counseling. In such scenario one has to be very careful. It seems that you did a lot of research on debt settlement companies

Morning Tony, you are very perceptive to be wary of these sales pitches. Like goodnelly said, many will charge you fees BEFORE you even get any type of counsel, to me that is not only bad business, but they're to be questioned! sounds like you found Take Charge and they have your best interest first and foremost. Congratulations on beginning a business, you may be hitting some potential tough times, but starting a business is not easy. very very glad to hear that you're still current. we hope you stay that way. let us know how things go for you

Thanks Nelly ad Debtstinker. It's really sad that there are so many people out there willing to prey on the desperate. It could happen to anyone of us. I almost signed thinkig it's the ultimate solution. Those guys are pros at what they're doing.
One way to get relief is to start harrassing the hell out of your creditors before they start harrassing you... hehehe...
Maintaining good credit is vital and most credit card companies will work with you without affecting your credit report.
Will keep the board updated.
