Owe 10000 in credit card bills, haven't made any payments in 4 or 5 months, finally realized I need to deal with this and face it. I don't know where to begin. I'm overwhelmed.

Do you have the company names of the creditors that you need to pay. You may want to start by calling them or writing them a letter informing them of your intentions, they may work out a payment plan that you can afford.
If you don't have the company names or know where the debt is now, you can pull a free copy of your credit report and find out who is handling them now. Just go to annualcreditreport.com, you can pull a free report from each of the credit reporting agencies there, it would be a good place to start.
I wish you luck and encouragement in getting your debt settled. It is a big step to move forward and take care of it, instead of having them pursuing you.
